This pilot apparently had time to make a decision to slow down and make a very controlled landing in the water, and kudos to him. With high-rises all around, it could have been disastrous.

And kudos to the flight attendants, because it looks like everyone got out alive. We're watching at work, but I haven't heard for sure.
The pilot did a fabulous job landing the plane. He and the rest of the crew are heroes in my eyes for averting a potential tragedy.

I forgot about the emergency responders. Great job by everyone involved.

And all the private water-taxi/ferries/water transport people

All I know is I want that pilot to be the one on every plane I take in this lifetime.

He did an amazing job, nothing short of a miracle. The rescue crews did an amazing job as well. Kudos to them.

I hope the pilot gets a medal or a raise or something! I really can't believe no one died. It's just shocking. That plane should have been torn apart when it hit that water.

This is why I don't fly. I have an extreme phobia. If I had to choose though, this plane would be a good one, since it was a controlled water landing, rather than an actual crash where the plane was torn up.

News reports last night talked about the fact that they train pilots on a water landing thru a simulator, but it has never really been done and no one really thought it was possible. This was a miracle! The captain is a true hero!!

If anyone had been injured I wouldn't say this, but this came to mind last night as I lay in my post-surgery drug induced state watching the coverage: The plane was taken down by terrorists. The birds worked for owlquaeda.

Those passengers were blessed to have the pilot they had.

Now I hear the blood sucking lawyers are out in force already. Only in America.

Read about this hero of a pilot here:

http://michellemalkin.com/2009/01/15...-sullenberger/

Anyone want to take bets on if the pilot will be sued personally along with the airlines for saving all those people's lives. Because, of course, the geese MUST be someone's fault.

I heard the pilot was a former Air Force fighter pilot- he definitely deserves some major commendation for keeping all 150 passengers and 5 crew alive

From what I heard, birds got caught in both engines and shut them both down

Yes, he was in the USAF back in the day, stationed at Nellis AFB in Las Vegas, Nevada among other places, including Europe. He flew F-4's which my brother worked on. My prior post has a link in it that gives oodles of info.
My brother was a Crew Chief on the Flight Line at NAFB during the same time Sullenberger was there.

I saw on a news program that one of the pilots gave his dry shirt to a man who had gotten completely wet.

That it is. I know pilots go through simulator training at least once a year to prepare themselves for all sorts of dangerous scenarios including water landings. The simulator is one thing, human reaction and how a person reacts during the real thing is something else entirely. Amazing job.

won't happen. i wasn't surprised to hear his age - the pilots that make these types of amazing landings are usually quite old. the one that landed that broken airplane in hawaii was, too.
he's 3 years from losing his license - pilots are required to stop flying commercial aircraft at age 60.
