Ok...so now no one believes that I'm not a cat person. If you remember, a couple of years ago I adopted 3 all black TNR feral female cats. Well, someone forgot to tell them they were feral. They love coming into the house and getting special food, and they are always up for hugs and kisses. Now our place has become home to 3 new toms. (yes they are going to be TRN and brought back to my place). One has been coming around for about 2 years. Everytime he would see us he would bolt. Well, the other day I notice that he had been in a fight, and all I could think of was I hoped the other guy looked worse. I wasn't even sure he still had one of his eyes, it was so bad. Well, 4 days ago, he came in to the barn to eat,(not knowing I was still there), and was so busy eating he didn't see me come into the tack room. I started petting him, and boy did he jump. The thought of food must have been too much because he went right back to eating, so I started petting him again. He was waiting for me later in the day for the next feeding, and by that night he was my best friend. The next day he let me try to clean up his wounds. He does have his eye, it's just his 3rd eyelid that was so swollen. I'm picking up an extra large trap tomorrow, then taking him in to be fixed. I'll be paying extra for the wound repair, but he deserves it. Of course, being an old time vet tech, I don't touch any other animal until I've cleaned up. I don't know what he may have, but I'm not going to spread it. After I get him fixed up, there are 3 more males that are going to be fixed. I think they are reading the FREE FOOD sign that must be up. Oh well, between dogs, cats and my horses, I'm sure the neighbors will start talking before long.

I don't understand it at all. I've never had cats. Even as a vet tech, I would do anything to avoid the cats. (sorry, but it's true). My arms look pretty bad from trying to get blood pre-op from pissed off cats. I would take parvo puppies over cats. And now look at me. suddenly, they all want to be with me. I swear I had someone tell me (to my face) that I must be a wicca, because of the way the cats follow me around. I don't mind, I just thought it was strange. i've had wild raccoons come up to me while I'm sitting behind the barn and just walk up to me and start sniffing me and stand there and stare at me. Lucky for me, the feral cats don't seem to mind them. I guess they are ok with each other. All I know is that I've got to get these boys cut before they run around any more and increase the population again.

What a gift!

I think you should work together with a good, big rescue-group, and do their fosterings. Or in any case, the first, thorought-break socializing...

A couple of weeks with you, after it somebody else perhaps extra polishing fostering preparing to adoption even with people not used with cats... This somebody else also doing the adoption-process.

Im not sure if this will be so much fun and joy for you personally, but it will surely be very effective!

I actually have an area that the horses don't have access to that the TNR group could put up a cat house for some ferals. I think the last time I spoke the them they were hinting about it, but sometimes I can really be dumb. I'm not sure what or how that would work. I spend a lot of time outside anyway, so being with them isn't a problem. I wanted to foster in the house, but hubby said no to that idea. He is one of those that when he becomes close to the animal, he can't say goodby. I understand where he is coming from. That is why animals come onto the property and always stay. He wants to appear tough, but he really wears his heart on his sleeve. He should be ok with setting up a house outside. I'll run it by him and see. It's really a good idea.
