Hi, my short hair orange tabby does not shed. Has anyone heard of other cats like this who do not shed? His mother is also a short hair orange tabby... is this something that happens when the mother is orange too?

All cats shed, some just shed less than others. Color has nothing to do with it. How short is his coat? What is the texture like (eg; cotton, cashmere, ect) Is the fur flat against his body, or does it stand out? All of these things can influence how much a cat seems to shed.

You also might not see much of his fur around the house due to the color. I have white cats, so they look like they shed more than they actually do--the white fur shows up on everything.

It does not have to do with color because my shorthair red(orange) tabby was the worst shedder I have ever had. It has to do with the type of coat the cat inherited.

Some breeds tend to shed less. Nothing to do with color. Your red tabby just has less dense fur and sheds less.
