Obama spreads the word

He and his family have narrowed down their choice of dogs to a couple or so, that hopefully won't be too hard on the daughters allergies. And he has put out the word to regional shelters to be on the lookout, as he still has every intention of adopting a "pound puppy"

Nevermind..That's a rare breed, and I don't think you will find one in a shelter.

He will have better luck with a labradoodle. They come in often. Yuck.

My brother and SIL have 8 dogs, all rescues, most found dumped in the neighborhood which is semi-rural. They found a dog, wonderful, beautiful dog, looked like some kind of Terrier mix, Black with a white blaze.
Took him with us to Wag-A-Tail Walk-A-Thon and some people saw us and came up to us, they had a dog that looked exactly like Lucky. Lo and behold he is Porteguese Water Dog. Never say never, it happens, but they are rare.

I thought first generation Labradoodle's shed don't they?

And I STILL think Barack will go to a breeder, I hope he proves me wrong.

Biden is such a moron.

Funny thing....we have a Labradoodle or water spaniel or something here. She was a stray, so we really don't know what she is....but she looks like the mother to a childhood dog - a Water Spaniel X.

I hope that the find the dog that is right for thier family. Whether from a shelter or from a reputable breeder. Either way is perfectly fine and if the dog is right it will be with them and give them joy for years. It is the daughter's dog and he seems to be letting them research the options so let us let Sasha and Malia pick their dog that is right for them.

There is no such thing as a Portuguese Water "HOUND", geesh, Barack, PWD are NOT hounds.

Yeah Barack can go get a Labradoodle from a back yard breeder. Oh Joy

I work at a shelter and we get labradoodles in all the time. They are not an uncommon shelter dog.

I don't know anything about the water dog..but whatever.

I know. But Barack Obama is obviously not, shall I say, familiar, with animals. He looks like he is trying for the sake of his daughters. Which he should considering what they have to live with for the next four years. But I hope he gets the Portuguese water dog. I don't have a problem with purebreeds and I am not as keen on these designer dogs unless they happen to be an unexpected love match between the golden and the poodle.

Let's hope Obama doesn't flip-flop on his stated intention to get a shelter dog.

I'd like to see him get a mixed breed, but the most important thing is that it's a rescued dog.

Shelters nationwide would benefit from being included in the wave of Obamamania.

From what I can tell he has a short list of dogs to choose from. He needs a hypoallergenic dog as one of his daughters is allergic. Still they can be found in shelters. I have seen everything come in just about. If they can come in "purebred" from my neck of the woods there has got to be a hypoallergenic dog for the family out there.

The dog doesn't have to be a PB to be non-shedding. Although there are probably many ignorant people out there that don't know any better that think a Labradoodle is a PB. He could get a Poodle, a Bichon, a Maltese.
I wish he good get a good, old, Heinz 57 non-shedding mutt from a shelter, can you imagine how cool that would be?

I like non-shedding dogs myself, that's why I have two, both Bichon-Poodle mixes, both from different shelters, got them 4 years apart, they could almost be twins. It was sooooo easy, they are both the best dogs in the world, wouldn't trade them for any PB around.

And I know Bush probably got Barney from a breeder, I don't really mean to harp on Barack (for this at least ). But it I would like to believe that we have made some strides in awareness about dog and cat overpopulation. This one thing by Barack, adopting a mutt from a shelter could do a world of good.

Hmmm....wonder if I painted Izzy black she could pass as a PWD?

I can just see it now "first dog bites first daughter"...."first dog ate white house wall"....."first dog pooped in white house"....

The press gaining from Obama looking into shelter dogs - will do shelters a world of good.
