I love this! I looked mine up on a different site, but I have:

Lila: dark haired beauty. We actually looked this one up before we named her. She's solid black and has the prettiest little face like a doll.

Reilly: My husband actually named him after Bill O Reilly (haha!) But the name means courageous or valiant. Which isn't true at all, he's our scaredy cat!

Trinity- threefold (we named her Trinity because she's a calico so I suppose that fits)
Bentley- Bent grass clearing (lol, I named him Bentley because he has a bent tail. . . bent tail, bent grass. . . I suppose it works)
Nemo- no one, no name (I actually knew this one already. . . . He didn't have a name for the first three weeks he was with me, then I found out what Nemo meant and it fit perfectly!)

Mercury isn't on there.

Mercury was the messenger of the gods. He also managed to get into a fair amount of trouble.

Levi: Hebrew; means combined
Jordan: Hebrew; means Descend; flow down
Isaac: Hebrew: means He will laugh
Maggie: Greek; means Pearl ( I have to say the meaning of Maggies name is the only one I think really fits her because she is my little pearl! & my only girl so she is precious to me!)

I've added a signature now, so I wanted to do a quick repost so you could see my "dark haired beauty"

Callie:most beautiful---that is so true. She truly is my beautiful girl.

Hallie: home ruler---also true. She is the queen of the house.

I couldn't find one for Baby. She could be described as sweet and gentle.

Quill: I like to say "Like a porcupine quill" ... but really I named him because his tail looks like a quill feather pen when he gets excited. He's also a very quiet, thoughtful, sweet cat. I bet if he was a person he would be an artist, novelist or philosopher.

RB Kitties:

Tucson: He had come with that name when we adopted him from the shelter. As we grew closer, I ended up calling him "Arizona", just because he reminded me of a cowboy. So his full name was Tucson Arizona. He was rarely called Tucson ... he had many names, all of them close to my heart. I still miss him after four years
.

Cleo: She was named by her meowmy, and for all the right reasons she deserved to be named after a queen. She is also an RB baby, and even though we had her for six months, we had known her for ten years or more.

Spike: My dear old angel. Spike was probably THE toughest, burliest tomcat you could ever meet. He was as tough as nails, but also my crib guardian.

I love reading about what our kitties' names mean!
Here are mine (source: behindthename.com):

Oliver: Norman French form of a Germanic name meaning "elf army"
Also linked to the Latin oliva, for "olive tree." Literary and historical Olivers include Olivier, advisor to Roland in the French Le Chanson de Roland, Oliver Cromwell (no comment), and Oliver Twist from the Charles Dickens novel of the same name. My Oliver was named after the last one because he has such a sweet face.

Oliver's middle name is Declan, which is the name of an Irish saint and missionary. I just checked babynamesworld and found out it's Gaelic for "full of goodness." That's perfect for him most of the time.
He was named after Declan McManus (better known as Elvis Costello), and Declan Walsh, the title character in the Walter F. Murphy novel The Vicar of Christ

Rocky: Diminuitive of Rocco, which is an Italian form of a Germanic name meaning "rest". The Italian St. Rocco is the patron saint of the sick; he cared for Black Plague victims but sadly, died of the plague himself. This fits Rocky, because if I'm not feeling well or I'm upset, he sticks close to me till he knows I'm OK. He was actually named for Rocky the Flying Squirrel (Bullwinkle's sidekick; blame my cousin for that one
)

Rocky's middle name is Malachy, which is the Irish form of Malachi, "my angel" in Hebrew. Again, perfect for him, but I didn't know it when I gave him that name; he was named for the Irish-American author and actor Malachy McCourt.

And in case you're wondering, yes, I did grow up in an Irish Catholic home and am a voracious reader.

IMHO, she looks like a Penny to me. (Or better still, Penelope.) According to behindthename.com, Penelope means "threads, woof." Odysseus' wife in the Odyssey was named Penelope.

She's gorgeous, BTW. She looks like my friend Michelle's tortie Tess (who was named for Della Reese's character on "Touched by an Angel").

Mimi, the woman whose cats I watched while she was out of the country back in November, has some interesting names for her cats.

The ones with English names are Sam, Samantha, Sparks, Shadow, and May Sweet (who, ironically, is not sweet at all!
She bullied the other cats, ignored me, and snubbed her mom when she got home.)

The other three have Burmese names (Mimi is from Myanmar by way of the UK):

Meh Too = Blackie (mostly black with white paws and belly)
Phyu Chaw = White Beauty (she is a very pretty cat, solid white with green eyes)
Pauk Phaw = Fat Boy (he's a big boy, at least 18 pounds. He and Shadow are the friendliest of the crew.)

Freya - is named after the norse goddess Freya (or Freja), who presides over love, beauty and battle amoung other things. She got the name because we'd started referring to her bad eye as her 'battle-scar' and we just felt that Freya suited her.

Cotton - He came with the name, actually. It was the one the rescue group had given him and we fully intended to change it, but they we noticed that he actually answered to it so he got to stay as 'Cotton.' I was told they called him that because when his fur fluffs up he looks like a big cottonball.

Bodhi is short for Bodhisattva; the word has multiple meanings depending on the division of Buddhism you wish to ascribe to. I prefer the Mayahana Buddhism definition which says that a bodhisattva is an enlightened being that compassionately refrains from entering nirvana in order to save others.

That's certainly my sweetheart Bodhi... i know it's corny, but sometimes I play the Rascal Flatts song "Every Day" for him. He really has saved me.

My new little sweetheart is Siddha. Siddha is short for Mahasiddha, sanskrit term for "great perfect one." It's also a form of bodhisattva that has magical powers. I think Siddha looks like he'd be a magician's cat. He's also REALLY mischevious and tends to just appear out of nowhere sometimes!

Mitzi is a nickname for Maria, which is the Latinized form of Mary, which is usually translated as "bitter" or something close . . . but there's also a theory that Mary really comes from an ancient Egyptian name, mry, which means "beloved."

I guess my kitties have names that wouldn't be equal to baby names. The only one that works at all is Sam-I-Am. Hubby calls him Sammy: Origin: Hebrew Meaning: His name is God~I'm sure Sam thinks this works! I call him Patootio though. Otherwise we have; Tuff n Stuff, Bosco, Tribble the three legged kitty (I call her Pickle because she started out a sweet baby gherkin, but grew into a spicy dill) & Chairman Mau the Oriental Shorthair.

What a great thread! It's fun seeing what others name their babies!
