Here are a few more (but it almost seems presumptuous):

Griselda (Spanish) and Liadan (Irish Gaelic) both mean "gray."

Charna (Yiddish), Devin (Irish Gaelic), Lamya (Arabic), Li (Chinese), Melanie (German, originally from Greek), Nigella (English, originally from Latin), Rajani (Sanskrit), Sauda (Swahili), and Senka (Serbian) all mean "dark"

Arianrhod means "silver wheel" in Welsh and is the name of a Celtic goddess. Simin means "silvery" in Persian and Lujayn means "silver" in Arabic.

I let it be for a few days to see if there was anything about her personality that would inspire a name.

She just seems like a sweet little girl to me.

I eventually figured out that if I called her Alley, it would be a double entendre. I hear girls called Alley all the time - short for Allison usually for them. With kitty, Alley is a nice feminine name that I can see being associated with a sweet kitty, and the double entendre is in the fact that I encountered her as a feral kitten. Ferals are AKA "alley cats" ... hence the double meaning.

So, she's Alley. Ironically, she knows her name now after only a couple days of me using it (maybe because its 2 syllables and ends with an "ee" sound like I read here on the site), whereas I'm still getting used to it and have slipped a few times and called her Socks. It's weird how after a couple weeks of calling her Socks she didn't associate that as being her name, but after 2-3 days of being Alley she got the concept of that being her name immediately.

So is it still Alley? I like the names that end in e or y too. They do seen to respond quickly to them. All my cats end up with at least 2-3 names each anyway. For instance...I call Manny...Manny.....Sweet pea( he was so little and sweet just like your Alley when he came to our house) and little P. Bruschi is Bruschi, Bru and BruBru depending on what he's doing. Brady is Brady. Braydoo and Braids, lol

Yep. She's permanently Alley or Ally. Which spelling do you guys think I should use for her papers? I tend to think Ally is better.

I also call her Ally McMeow as a funny nickname.
