I have three stray cats that I am giving all neccesary shots, spay/nueter to then I am going to find homes for them. They are all pretty gentle natured, but the female NEVER stops meowing. If I am in the room she will meow, meow, meow until I stop whatever I am doing and pet her. If I am not in the room she will sit on my bed and meow, meow, meow until I come in and interact with her. At night when I put her in a kennel and turn the lights off she will meow, meow, meow for probably an hour before she finally goes to sleep. Then at about 3am she wakes up and starts meowing all over again. And she doesn't have a sweet little purr-like meow either. Its the 10 second long, whiny, "reeeeOWWWWWWWowwwwww" that echos through the house. At first I thought it was cute. Now after having my sleep disturbed 5 nights in a row it isn't so adorable. She WAS a stray, used to running around outdoors so she probably is complaining some because she wants to go out-which I am not letting her. Is there any way I can quiet her down? I can't help it when I wake up at 3am and start thinking how lovely Boiled Cat Stew sounds
. Also, when she starts meowing her two brothers who are normally quiet join in, and I have a cat choir that is in DIRE need of a voice instructor. And I have already checked to see if she is in heat-she isn't. She doesn't show any signs, and I let her out to play with her brothers every day and they show no interest. So...I just really want to find something that will keep a bit quieter.

It's very likely because she hasn't been neutered yet. If you go ahead and do that now, she will probably stop. You should do it quickly, too, since there are male cats in the house and she could be impregnated.

This made me laugh.

Get her spayed first. But yes, for the most part she's bored. She'll get over it and, if she's a younger cat, play time will help work off some energy in the evening. Do you have a window she can look out? Spying on the neighbors is my cats favorite activity.

I have a stray that I recently turned to a house cat. He's meowing less and less each day as he settles in.
