In my line of work, I hear all kinds of odd replies to simple statements...

For example: I called an owner to alert them that their dog had fleas. She replied "oh. Is that why she's been scratching so much?"

I asked the owner why her dog was so matted. She replied. "I thought you didn't have to brush hair (as opposed to fur. Some dogs like poodles have hair, which makes them hypo-allergenic... or so I'm told)

And in my mind (I don't say these things out loud... I'd like to keep my job, thank you!) I've got 2 words "well duh!!"

It is pretty amazing what some people say. If they're first-time pet owners, why don't they read up on pet care? The poor dog.

For real! Do some research people! I've grown up with cats, and I still do research about the particular breed I'm getting! Sheesh! Poor dog.

Unfortunately, it is my experience that stupidity is not a curable disease.

I must say that it wasn't all the same owner. The first one (the one surprised her frantically scratching dog had fleas) was an elderly woman who sends her kids over to drop off and pick up the dog. The second client was a working woman and first time dog owner... still. Does she figure hair has some sort of automatic dematting quality to it?
... If it did, I'd be out of a job

Thankfully, most of my owners are well educated, if not sometimes "selectively" ignorant.

Why did I suddenly get a memory flash of one of my customers that has 2 dogs, and apparently can't afford to pay for properly fitting pants? Every time he comes by and bends down to pick up his dogs, I can clearly see his underwear (which is not in the best shape either... *shudder*)
