I recently joined the site, it looks like a good spot to discuss questions and compare experiences.

I have worked for the same company in both engineering and health/safety/enviromental work for over 30 years. In the past 25 years, my wife and I have had five cats, we lost two of them in 2005.

We currently have three cats, all indoor cats, in order of adoption;

Taz, 10 years old; A neutered ginger tabby tom.

He showed up in the bush across the road from us one morning at about 12 weeks old. He took to me right away but previously had a rough few days, he had a mangled tail and leasions in his mouth.

We took him to our vet who shot him full of atibiotics and amputated quite a bit of the tail. His recovery was swift though. Hyper activity gave him the name.

He is a 19 pound adult, big, not really overweight. He has ear tufts and was left with a tail similar to a lynx.

He is a "gentle giant" that is very friendly.

Morgan (Morgan Taylor Cat) 9 years old, black and white DSH female

Someone threw her from a car at about 6 weeks of age.

She is about 10 pounds and our most graceful and active cat. She is affectionate and playful but a bit "flighty", not really a lap cat.

She is in good physical shape, quite trim in spite of constant begging for treats food, she would be good in one of those TV commercials.

Kasey our most recent cat, brought home in May 2008, she is an 8 to 10 year old torti that I rescued from one of our company's sites.

She was brought there when she was a kitten for rodent control, they had her spayed and she had her shots. I go to the site occassionally as part of my job and the cat has known me for all these years.

As time went on, enevitable changes went on and she did not receive the best of care and in some cases I heard she was kicked around etc. Through all this, she retained a nice nature with people and craved attention. (Later examination showed an old injury to her left rear leg and the tips of the upper canines were broken off.) She was losing patches of fur and looked to be in bad shape.

Last April, I was on site for a few days and had seen enough, I came home and we talked about it and on the next run up there, I brought a cat carrier and took her home.

We did all the vet stuff and the recommended slow introduction from separate rooms etc. She did very well on good quality food and is in very good shape, now and all the fur with full torti colours grew back quite thickly. She has basically "imprinted" on me and has retained her friendly nature with people. She has adapted well to being a house cat and seems happy she doesn't "do" winter anymore.

Hi, Claydust!
My name is Kass, and I'm also from Ontario. My husband is a Quality/Health & Safety/Environmental Manager and we have cats. So, there's 3 things in common between us!

Great introduction to your 'fur' family. We love to see pics so feel free to post them over in the Fur Pictures Only forum when you get the chance.

Hope you enjoy your stay!

Hi

I, too am from Ontario
(southwestern) but I am not in the Quality/Health & Safety/Environmental field. My hubby is a computer geek (techie, infastructure specialist, network engineer.... no specific designation) and I was in Web Design/Development.

Hope you enjoy your stay here, and please do post some pics of your kitties.

Welcome Claydust. Eastern Ontario here (Iroquois). Me and the missus (Knottygirls) joined a few months ago and really like these forums.

I'm not in Quality/Health & Safety/Environmental field either, Fed Gov't!

We've got two cats, Squirt (DLH Orange Tabby) and Shadow (DSH Barn Cat). Also have two rescues as guests in the basement this winter, Momma & Baby.

Welcome! If you are near the Toronto area, perhaps you could join our meet-up at the All About Pets Show coming up in April. Those of us in Southwestern Ontario try to have a meet up at that time and also a get-together over the summer. We exchange stories, get to meet face-to-face, have our pictures taken together to post on TCS and generally have a grand time. Some folks bring their spouses, some don't. It's great to meet people in person and get to know them somewhat.

You might have had a different opinion of him if you had to keep him for a week when he was young

From when he showed up at about 12 weeks old, until he was about 1 yr old, he realy was the most vigorous, frantically active kitten with the longest running endurance I have EVER encountered.

Most young cats I have seen play hard but "drop" after 20 or 30 minutes, not him, he ran on Energizer batteries.

Drove our poor "old girls" we had at the time, who where about 8 years then, completely crazy. Hence the name, "Taz".

It didn't help that he got big very quickly and was the size of a typical adult before he was 6 moths old....and kept growing.

He must have used most of it up because he is a quieter, slightly more dignified cat now.

He does have his moments, on Dec. 26th this year, for unknown reasons, he declared war on the Christmas tree, which we took down a day or two later.

Last night, he had some toy and ran that around for about 20 minutes; at least he's happy

Kasey just passed here first year anniversery of coming home. I brought her here on May 21, 2009.

She has had her annual vet check and vaccinations and all is well, except the vet says she needs to loose some weight and now the dreaded low cal food.

She has settled in and enjoys the critter beds and toys.

I don't think she wants to go back where she was

Happy Gotcha Day!

She must be very happy to be part of your family. Are the rest of them doing well?
