My newest addition Molly seems to be having an eye issue....Started over the holidays and seem to come and go...for a week...but its been on going for 2/3 days now....I called someone I know who worked as a vet tech and was told to use polysporin drops...well I've been doing that since Sunday and its NOT helped....I hope to god I didn't make it worse ....After a day of using only 2 to 3 drops a day ..her eye was almost sealed shut in the am....I cleaned it out using a warm cloth and then she seemed fine.....its alittle red around the eye not on the actually eye ball...and she squints alittle...and there some dry black things around the outside of her lid....I am going to call the vet in the am but just wondering if there something I can do for her this evening...or if anyone has any idea what this could be ? She is actually totally fine other wise...

It dosent sound like herpes.
Meeko has never had anything red.
Herpes is not on the eye ball.
Maybe your cat has pink eye.
Call the vet.

well, from what i can gather from reading, herpes doesn't always manifest the same way in every cat. some do get eye ulcers [where the sore is on the eye ball] but others don't. my Pixel gets sores on her face - they don't seem to hurt her, but they're very red & she loses hair.
this has only happened once where she got several sores - her 1st flare-up. she's gotten, at most, 1 during other flares - i check her face fairly often [at least once a day] so that i can up her lysine if she starts showing symptoms.
only a vet can make a positive diagnosis of herpes, but treatment is fairly simple, & doesn't have to be expensive.

Take her to the vet. It could be any number of things from an eyelash irritating it to conjunctivitis, or an eye infection. She could've scratched it or gotten a piece of dust in it. The vet will check her out and probably give you some antibiotic drops to treat it.

The squinting indicates there's a problem and vet care needs to be sought.

Well finally made it to the vets today....they did the black light test and there is nothing wrong with her eye...no scratches nothing in it....but it was still very red...he suggested it was a bacteria infection and gave me some ointment to put a thin layer on her eye 2 times a day....(BNPH) he said she should be feeling better tomorrow...glad its not herpes..
