Does your cat jump into your arms?

Our cat Jack jumps into our arms pretty frequently, typically from the ground. He'll land with a paw on either side of your neck and rub his face on your chin/nose, we'll of course catch him when he lands on us. But he doesn't use his claws at all, he totally trusts you to catch him.

Once or twice he has jumped up outside at night when we couldn't see him and he still won't use his claws, he'll hit your chest, fall away then run away for a bit.

He first started doing this when he was about 2 years old, he'd be spazzing out tearing around at 400 miles an hour, jump off the couch, onto/off your chest and keep burning around.

A couple of times wen he was moving a little slower I'd grab him when he'd hit my chest, pet him for a bit then let him keep tearing around.

Eventually when he was only slightly wound up I started encouraging him to jump into my arms from the couch, he did that for a few weeks and then started doing it pretty much whenever we encouraged it and started initiating it himself, slight crouch with eye contact then BIOING!

Then one day he walked up to my wife outside, gave her the look, and since then he does it all the time, a couple times a day for both of us typically.

I'm sure he's not the only cat to do this, but I think its probably pretty rare too, so here is a poll to find out!

They'll jump into my lap, but not my arms. So I voted never.

Hiding from my SS!
Mine will, but only off of a table or the couch, not from the floor. Most of the time they just wait for me to come to wherever they are and let them climb into my arms, but occasionally they'll jump to me if I'm not fast enough or whatever.

I don't know if I've ever tried this or given my cat the opportunity to do so. She jumps into my lap though. I think a cat of mine that passed away used to jump into my arms, but I was young and don't know if I'm imagining it now. I didn't vote because I want to see if she will or not first.

I guess for me it depends on the cat. Isaac would never, he doesn't trust any human that much. Maggie, well she just uses my back as a step stool to get to the top of doors. Levi, has a couple of times. Jordan on the other hand does this all the time. Sometimes he refuses depending on his mood, but usually I can just stand above him clap my hands and say Jordan UP & he will jump right into my arms & crawl up to my shoulder.

Harley will jump up into my lap and put her paws on my chest, but she doesn't like to be held in my arms at all! She'd prefer to jump out of my arms instead of into them.

Nope, never - none of mine like being held, so there's no way they'd jump into my arms!

A friends cat leaps into people's arms though, it's very cute (unless you're not a cat person...)

When Jack was young he didn't like being held, but once he started jumping into our arms he liked being held, probably because it is his choice to be held, no us picking him up.

Far far away!
Sox jumped into my husband's arms once. He held out his arms and called her and it surprised us, she just jumped from the floor all the way into his arms! She hasn't done it since though. We keep trying to train her to do it. But she won't!

I love it when he does that, but the truth is he jumps on visitors shoulders sometimes and they are generally not too thrilled with that. For example my dad who is super allergic. He is a sweet & very smart boy. He learned to sit on command & fetch, then the others learned it from him.

Nora doesn't, even though I've tried over and over again to get her to.

Gus used to all the time. You just had to tap your chest and he would jump. He was huge too, so sometimes it hurt when he used his claws to keep himself up.

Funny story...one day my mom came over to our old house. She was standing on the top stair talking to us. She tapped her chest for some reason and Gus thought she wanted him to jump up so he tried. She FREAKED out and almost fell down the stairs. LOL She screamed that our cat was attacking her. LMAO It was the funniest thing I had ever seen. Gus of course just sat there confused. He had no clue what had just happened. Poor guy.

Mr. Underfoot always used to come flying into my arms when I got home, ready or not. He loves to be held, any time I am willing to hold him.

He can't jump all the way up into my arms from the ground any more since he's developing arthritis, but he will still do it from another surface where he doesn't have to jump as far. I probably should have voted 'off higher objects', but he would still happily jump from the ground if he was still physically capable of doing so. If he wants to be held and I'm not standing near something he can jump on me from, he'll stand up against my legs and beg to be held. He will even jump onto my back if I lean over!

Our RB boy Gryphon did for a while. It was an established habit at the time when he came to us (at age 6), and he continued for a time, and then gradually he just stopped doing it. He would always demand to be picked up, though. No cat before or since has ever jumped up, with or without an invitation.

Jack will do the same thing, 2 arms full of groceries? Why should that matter? We just turn away from him if our hands are full and that disuades him pretty well.

Jack has jumped into the arms of several of our firends, they are always flattered, AS THEY SHOULD BE!!! ;-) But we've always saw it coming and told them to catch him.

A slight "limbo stance" can help encourage them, so they can run up your thighs a bit on their way to your arms.
