I got a (late) Christmas card today. I opened the envelope and the card was covered in glitter. I've read that glitter is deadly to cats, so I just opened up the envelope wide enough to take out an enclosed Christmas letter without removing the card. Somehow I got glitter all over my hands, exactly what I was trying to avoid. All of a sudden I started coughing and felt like I couldn't breathe, with my inhaler no where in sight. Finally got over it, but I wonder...can glitter cause an asthma attack? I still don't feel good and this happened hours ago.

I would assume most things with small particles would be of some risk

Earth, man.
It might have been what the glitter was made out of, something used to color it. Having exercise induced asthma all my life, I've recently added stress as a major trigger. Hope your breathing is back to normal. Nothing worse than an attack with the inhaler nowhere to be found.

Thanks to everyone for your help. This was very fine glitter and I am under a lot stress. So I guess it could have been both.
