Hello all,

A quick question. Mommie is a feral cat about two years old. We brought her into the house with her daughters, 1 is a year the other two are 6 months old. We also have two puppies. One poodle and one yorkie.

Everyone is getting along pretty well, she is starting to play with the other kitties. However she talks all the time. She will make a whrrrrl sound. It's not a cry and she seems happy. She will rub against me and lay with me. She will even let me pick her up, not for very long. She just talks alot.

Does anyone have any idea what this could mean ? I have tried giving her treats, petting her, She does not even go near the door when we let the puppies out.

Thanks
Brian

Apparently she is happy and gladely accepting this situation. A feral doesnt talk much, I think, its too dangerous. So when she is beginning to talk a lot = she realises she dont need to be silent anymore.
And the whirring sounds are pleasant friendship sounds. Like a happily courting cat may make, I think.

So she may be ex feral, but in that case example of natural variation which is easy to adapt into a homecat.

Congrats!

(Edit. Btw. Is she neutered? Ferale females in heat get often friendlier than usual. But she does accept the situation - she doesnt try to seek a male cat.)

Is she making a sound like "brrrrrrrrrrrt?" This is the way mother cats talk to their kittens. It's just a non-threatening communication saying, "Here I am, how are you?"

I make that prrrrrrrrp! noise to the nervous or scared cats in the storefront and sometimes they look at me like, how does she know to say that???

Sounds like your feral isn't feral anymore! That she has come around to living and loving the good life! And yes, some cats are definitely more chatty than others. For instance, as a breed, Siamese are notorious talkers!
