it was multiple choice - i voted for every one of them, since i have a kitty that fits each.

I voted for "Yes -they love it' for Elmo, Sophie, Flutterby and the five tabbies (one month old kittens)

I voted for "Yes - but only bregrudingly" for Fluffy who prefers to have her tummy combed than rather than rubbed. She's my only Persian, the rest are Exotics.

I can if he's sleepy, but if he's in a playful mood, he grabs my hand with both front paws and tries to nip.

It depends on Sneaky Pie's mood. She does lay on her back with her belly up, but most of the time she does NOT want you to touch it. You can rub her chest and she's happy.

Mistoflees LOVES belly rubs. Even if he's not on his back, if you start rubbing his belly he'll roll over and begin to purr. He even does the back leg thing- that dogs do when you rub their belly

my lil cat doesnt like it for more than about a minute if she is lay on the bed or on the sofa etc, the back legs come up to kick my hand away, or sometimes the front paws with claws out, and on one occasion she gently opened her mouth, and closed it around my hand, she didnt bite but i could feel her teeth! i think it was a "i could really hurt you if i wanted, so stop it" kinda thing

but she likes being held like a baby (on her back looking up, legs up) and when she is like that she seems to like a tummy rub.

rubbing her cheeks though, and under the chin, that is a differnt matter! purr purr purr purr, sha cant get enough of it!

Furrari and Eli love tummy rubs. Both boys will purr nonstop for as long as I will smoosh and love on theirr tummies.

Anna, not at all. She has learned not to bite or bunny kick but she will threaten to do both. I don't push the issue with her since she doesn't enjoy having her tummy rubbed. But I so want to rub and kiss that lovely spotted tummy!

It depends on their mood. Sometimes I can and other times forget it. However of all our cats, Carmelo loves to have his big white tummy rubbed. He rolls on his back with his huge feet in the air. He also likes to have those big feet massaged

My little one, Aya, doesn't like it one bit. Whichis too bad as her kitten fuzz is finally filling in and is very soft.

Our late great Gracie liked tummy rubs but only if you did it right, and she'd let you know when she was done with you with a quick nip to the fingers...

She had the coolest stomach fur too. She was a calico or patch tabby, but her stomach was cream with leopard spots. I always wished I could make a colalr out of it when she no longer ahd any more use for that coat.

Midori our current cat loves having her tummy rubbed by anyone and everyone, all the time. She'll lie down next to you (never on you) and roll over signaling she wants to be rubbed down under. she'll let you do it for a good half an hour or more. You get bunny kicked when she's finally had it.

Modir also does what we call the 'squeak and roll' dance...

Georgie thinks she's a dog and wants her belly rubbed as much as possible. The first thing she did when we met her was roll over to have her belly rubbed. When she met Tofu it didn't take her long to roll over for her either.

Tofu on the other hand....don't be fooled. She will walk up to you, flop over and show you her tummy. Try and touch it, I think not! She doesn't bite or scratch but she flips right over and huffs and puffs a little. The does it again! Go figure...

Willow I can get in a few strokes before she curls up and rolls over, but Gizmo thinks approaching hand = playtime and tries to wrestle.

I read somewhere that rubbing the belly has a sexual connotation for cats, so I don't really try it with my kitten. I'll have to find out where I read that, I think it might have been online or in "Kittens for Dummies."

Uh oh... then Wickett got some good love last night. I wish DH could have greabbed the camera with out him moving but he was laying on his back rolled up against me. This will probably sound bad but he's fixed... I had my arm between his legs and was just rubbing the tummy. When I would try to move my hand away he wouldn't move his top leg to let me. It didn't matter if I was petting him or just touching his tummy but he did not want me to move.

Junior used to "toy" with me about the tummy issue. He'd let me pet it for about 30 second, purring like mad and shifting so I'd get the tickle spots, and then his eyes would snap open and a michievious grin would plaster his face.
If I didn't get my hand out of the way quick-smart, it would turn to ribbons!

It depends what mood Silver is in. Sometimes he rolls over because he wants you to rub his tummy, but he only ever does that when he is i a playful mood and then he usually has a go at my hand anyway! It's not as bad as when he's in a bad mood and he attacks my hand! But generally hes a good cat and hardly ever attacks.

From all of the cats we've had over the years, only ONE cat we had would let you touch/rub his belly!
All our other cats would quickly bite and/or scratch!!

Larry loooooooves to have his tummy rubbed. He'll look over his shoulder if he hears me coming and flop down and roll over, and look at me with a look like, "Okay....I'm waiting.....come on....rub this fluffy tummy."
