Wow! Has anyone else read this book? It is soooo wonderful. If you like vampires that is
post #2 of 41
Nope I haven't read the book, but I did see the first half of the movie (from DVD). I think the movie wasn't nice... and I didn't find Pattison hot at all, despite what some of my female friends think
post #3 of 41
I read the book, and I have to admit, I wasn't impressed.
For trashy romance novels involving vampires I prefer Mary Janice Davidson's Undead series.

Kieran got the book for Christmas and he said he enjoyed the story line but it was really for teenage females!

I will read the book some time in January.

I've heard both the book(s) and the movie are very heavily geared to teenaged girls.

You heard right but I have to admit even though I'm well past being a teenager, I've read all 4 books and I really, really enjoyed them. I couldn't wait to get to the next one each time.
I haven't read any of the books, but I saw the movie and loved it. Are the books better than the movie? That's what I heard.

I have read the first 3 books so far. Trying to make myself wait to read the 4th (and last!) cause I dont want it to end!!

The movie does not look nearly as good as the book, but I will just have to go and see myself. Also, that guy who plays edward is so not hot! i say that now, but...i have to see the movie.

This book series is really made for girls. not neccesarily teenage girls, because we dont change that much

I have read all 4 books 3 times! I love them! I did not however care for the movie.

Read all the books, and loved them, was heartbroken when I heard Ms Meyer has put off the 5th indefinitely due to a breach of trust.
Liked the movie, and considering all the changes made to make the story fit into the alotted time, it was fairly well done.

I read all the books and saw the movie. Loved the books, but the movie was horrible. I don't think Kristen Stewart did a good job portraying Bella, and Edward Cullen in the movie wasn't all that hot either. Even though the cast will be the same for the second movie, I will still see the second movie and only hope that it will be better.
I loved the movie - haven't read the first book yet and listened to half of the second one on Audio CD.
I didn't like books 1-3 but I did like Breaking Dawn. Too much soppy romance for me in the first three books. I love the setting though and in the movie the scenery is beautiful.
I LOVED the books! I am on the forth one now and I have to say the movie wasn't NEARLY as good BUT I will be buying it anyways....I may have a slight crush on Emmett Cullen....

BTW I agree that Robert Pattinson isn't NEARLY as cute as what i first pictured Edward

I absolutely agree..although the more I see him the more I tie the image of him to the image I have in my mind of Edward. I really love how pretty all the vampires are lol. Alice is amazing ...

The 5th book is just basically Twilight from Edwards POV.

I do hope she releases it though.

I refused to read these books for over a year. I hated the fact that girls were OBSESSED with this Edward Cullen character and I wasn't going to be involved in any of that.

THEN, I saw a preview for the movie and decided since I wanted to see the movie I might as well read at least the first book.
Well, I read that in just a few hours and had to go get the rest of the series, which I also only read in a few hours.

I don't know what it is about it, but I looked forward to the next book. And couldn't wait to get home from work to read it. :P

I don't want to totally change topic of this thread, but has anyone watched this show on HBO called true blood? I saw it, liked the first episode and so I decided to read the books it was based on. They are soo good!! It's about vampires and they are also very quick to read and entertaining, even more engaging than twilight. I recommend it to people who liked twilight. There is also romance in them..I was so obsessed with these books a few months ago that I skipped classes to read them and sometimes even read in class while the professor was talking lol

I just read the first two books in the past three days. LMAO I can't afford to get the 3rd one b/c it is only in hardback. I guess I'll have to wait for that one. What a bummer.

I thought they were GREAT! I couldn't put them down. I thought the second one was a bit of a harder read than the first, but still good. A friend told me the 3rd is even better. I have not seen the movie yet. I'll probably wait until it is in the Red Box.

Who else on here is as obsessed with the Twilight series as I am?
I cant get enough of it, I read all 4 books in a week and a half cos I couldn't put them down....I now have unrealistic expectations from men haha
post #20 of 41
Lol I had that obsession a few months ago. Now that I look back though the books just weren't that impressive! They seem amazing when you are obsessed though, and I've been there. My favorite one is the fourth one....There is another thread about this on the paws and reflect section..

I think they are really good. Yes, they are intended for teenagers, but I like that b/c it makes them an easier read. Less "garbly-gook" and descriptions to get in the way. I just bought Eclipse last night. I need to get off here and go back to reading it! LOL

I was with my grandmother yesterday. She has the mentality of a child b/c she had a brain aneurysm in 1996 (really sad b/c she used to be a teacher for the military and was VERY very smart). I had my Twilight book with me, and I mentioned that I was hoping to buy the 3rd book, and she got ALL excited that I had read Twilight. I asked her if she wanted to read it, and she got even MORE excited!! It was so funny! I handed the book to her and she stuck it in her purse real quick. It was almost like she wanted to put it away before I changed my mind. I'm going to give her the other books when she is done with that one.

Aww.. My mom reads them too. English is her second language and she likes the fact that she can read them without a dictionary.
By the way did anyone hear Stephen King saying that Stephanie Meyer is a terrible writer and compared her to JK Rowling whom he praised ...I dunno, to me it's true her prose is not super beautiful and fancy and JK Rowling's is better however her story is much more interesting than JK Rowling's....
I didn't hear that, but honestly I prefer simple writers. I HATE Stephen King b/c he goes into TOO much detail. As I always say, it can take him 15 pages to describe a rock. Get to the point. I can't read books like that. He probably thinks that all my favorite authors are terrible writers, but I don't care. I'm a speed reader and tend to skip through things that don't matter to the story line, and with Stephen King it is too hard to do that. I have to sift through everything and it frustrates me.
I find Stephen King's books dull...The most important thing to me is the story. I can skip around if I don't want to read all the details, I've done that with Stephanie Meyer too. there was a whole section of Eclipse that I never read- it was some warewolf legends Billy Black was telling around a bonfire that bored me to death but took up an entire chapter....I've tried doing that with Stephen King's books but I end up skipping the entire book lol, there was just nothing there that interested me...So yea Stephanie Meyer had a nice engaging story, I was not bored while reading and that's all that matters to me ..

I finally finished the series last night. And I gotta say I am absolutely in love with Edward. I never thought I was gunna be one to jump on the bandwagon but once I got thru the first book I went out and bought the other 3.
I read them out of order. I read 2, 3 and 4, then the first one. The first one was so boring that it took me nearly a month to read it. The others weren't too bad. Very high-schoolish and "simple" at times. However, I just skimmed through those parts and didn't dedicate much time to them.

I will watch the movie when it's on TV. From what I hear it's filled with high school drama, which isn't really up my alley.

As others have mentioned, the Twilight series is written for teenagers- not adults. Meyer did write her first "adult" geared book, "The Host", which I love. I really enjoyed the Twilight books, in fact I managed to reach each book in about two days.. I couldn't put them down. After reading "The Host" I was hesitated on reading Twilight, since it is a young adult book, but I couldn't put it down. I also love Charlaine Harris- but she is most definitely adult oriented, same with Sherilyn Kenyon, Kelley Armstrong, and the other supernatural writers I love. I wouldn't expect amazing writing out of something geared towards 15 year old girls. I like Meyers, like I love the other writers I mentioned, because they are fun, quick, and easy reads. I love Stephen King because his books have powerful themes and messages and he's an amazing writer. I love the way he describes things and I don't mind reading 1000 page books. Lisey's Story and Duma Key were especially emotional and incredible books. If you want a quicker King read go for Cell..who doesnt love zombies?

I just finished the first book. I struggled through it. Thankfully I just borrowed it from my niece so I am not out any money.

I am also borrowing her other books from the series and praying that they get better.

Yayyy I looooooove CH!!! She is amazing. I can't wait to read her next book in may. Although adult oriented it's not that much different on entertainment level from Stephanie Meyer.

I did not like the second one (don't really like Jacob) but the third was good and the fourth was the best. I want there to be a fifth book.
