My cat hates people, and she is attracted to strange sounds?

Hey everyone!

Well first off, my cat Kaya, was taken to get neutered about 3 years ago. Her doctor I should say he was way too rough, and did some thing to make her never trust men, or most new people. Ever since then, she has hated men she had met after the situation. When guests come over, she runs at them and starts hissing like crazy and attacks them. Is she that smart to understand that a man did that to her and she cannot trust anyone new? Why does she like some younger people and not others?

A second strange thing about my cat is that she goes crazy for noises that come from Hallmark sound cards, certain whistles, and stuffed animals that when you squeeze them they will make a squeeky song, like happy birthday or graduation song. She will nuzzle it and meow like she's in heat. Sometimes she will start licking herself and really love the person holding the noise. Could this be her childhood talking? We did adopt her.

Any explanation guys? Thanks in advance.

I went through a similar experience when I had a housecall vet come to my apt. Since then one of my cats has been suspicious of -- even hostile to, once -- strange visitors. What I do now is leave him in the bedroom when I have guests and I check with him to see if he feels comfortable coming out, rather than just having people descend on him. Sometimes he'll come out, sometimes he won't.

You might want to try to reacclimate your cat to people, and it's something you should probably do really slowly. For starters, you could put her in another room when visitors come, and periodically have them talk to her sweetly through the door, and maybe even try finger-playing under the door with her. They could also push some of her favorite treats under the door. If you have some regular visitors, they could do this every time and maybe she'll get to used to them and eventually want to meet them.

And when she does meet them, have them hold one of those cards or toys she likes so much!

I'm sure many other people here will have ideas.
