My kitty, Tzipporah, is black and has short hair. I've been told shes an american shorthair and I've been told she's a domestic shorthair.
I'm so confused. Any help?

I'd show you all a picture, but I'm still figuring this site out.

Are they really?

Well, that solves that problem!

Thank you so much.

Yes, the very second I figure this out, I'll post pictures of my baby.

Pretty sure that American short hair is a breed... domestic short hair is a mix... a mutt... with short hair.

Most likely, you have an domestic short hair.

American Shorthairs are a purebreed, like a British or Scottish s/h.

While the original American SH's were from domestic shorthair stock, over 40 yrs or more, the breeders got more consistent with breeding and had a written standard. So today the American Shorthair is a legit breed of cat.

If you didn't get your cat from a breeder with registration papers, then its a domestic shorthair meaning its a mix of backgrounds - not a "purebred" cat.
