Hi From Beantown!

Hi all,

After much time and research, I have decided to adopt my first kitten ever, and am hoping all goes well when I call the woman from the rescue organization this afternoon. I saw a kitten yesterday that is available for adoption, and I can't wait to see the little baby again! I currently have an 8 year old Cocker Spaniel who is very well-tempered, and have read up a bit on introducing kittens to dogs, etc.

I have nothing but time, love, and patience to give to a new baby kitten! My dog is so spoiled... he is truly a part of the family. The same will be true of the new addition. The kitten I am looking at is 14 weeks old, black with a white face and paws, and is really outgoing and sweet.

Welcome! My wife is from up in that area. Pepperell, to be exact.

Most cockers get along well with cats, but you might want to peruse the site to see if there are any threads that can give you insight in how to introduce them. Don't expect to throw them together and have cuddles the first day (although it COULD happen!).

Thanks! She is so sweet, I did end up bringing her home today! She is SO cuddly and adorable. Right now I have her in her own room upstairs, which I kittyproofed as much as possible by blocking her access to any cords, etc. I've left her there a little bit today (for about 2 hours or so while I napped in the next room). She is a real lovebug! My dog knows she is there and is trying to figure out what's going on, but overall is being good. They haven't met yet... I'll keep you posted!

Please keep me informed as to any advice you may have for a new kitten owner... thanks a bunch!

Congrats on the new baby! I have 3 dogs and when I brought my cats home they were so excited and wanted to lick them to death. Ive worked with a lot of cockers and they are usually really placid loving dogs so Im sure they will be best friends in no time....cant wait to see pics of both of them

Thank you all for the kind welcome! Charlie and Toby (dog and kitten, respectively) have yet to meet, but I'm sure they will do fine. I am just going to take it nice and slow! I bought new batteries for my camera and will have to figure out a way to share the pics when I take them.
