I got up at 7am this morning so that I could go and do grocery shopping and have my groceries delivered before noon so that I could go out and run some more errands this afternoon IE: banking because the next time I can do that is on the 30th!

My order was through the checkout by 10am and I paid extra for "rapid delivery" guarantying my delivery by noon. It's now 1:30pm and it's still not here. I just called Safeway who in turn contacted the delivery company. Their excuse? "We forgot!"
So now they are sending a driver there (apparently), to pick up my order and I should have it in 30 to 60 minutes. By the time I get my groceries and put stuff away, the bank will be closed and so will the dry cleaners and the 2 other places that I wanted to go. Not to mention having to battle rush hour traffic in a taxi cab! So it looks like I won't be running any errands today like I had planned!

Safeway said that I have a store credit or a refund for the delivery fee for the next time. So at least I'm not paying for something I didn't get. I didn't even ask them for a refund, they offered. So I guess that's a good thing.

They should have given you a refund for this time or free delivery for the next two times since you paid extra.

I finally got my groceries at 2:30 pm. Unfortunately the last minute errands and shopping I had to do this afternoon before Christmas won't be happening
I'm so not impressed.
Oh well. No sense in getting myself worked up over it, nothing I can do about it now. Guess I'll have to ask my brother to drive me to a bank machine tomorrow before we go to his place.

I use to use Safeway delivery too. it's a Godsend in some situations. like the one you have. For me it was laziness. lol but that all stopped when my disaster happened. the cost of delivery 9 bucks for 4 hour window or 12 with a 2 hour window, plus the much higher prices than walmart for the groceries just made it way too expensive.

But when things were going great I used them a lot. here's a tidbit I didn't know. I've got a habit of over tipping people. I always do. when i was in college I worked as a server and bartender, and I know just how great it feels to get a huge tip. So, for instance, the devlery boys from Safeway, whoever came, always got a 20 dollar tip. UNTIL i had a problem one time and emailed customer service. i explained that i always take care of the delivery guys, and that I tip them 20 each time. That's 80 bucks a month! I got a call later that day, and they told me that under no circumstances are they suppose to even accept a tip. It's against the rules. I often wonder if they got fired. I didn't know until they told me.

Anyway, so know that going in, if you aren't tipping, DO NOT feel bad.

Here delivery is $6.30 for one cart. If you have lots of stuff and it over flows into 2, the charge is $9.60 or something. The price for 2 hour "rapid delivery" is $10.50, which is the one I asked for. Instead I got 4 1/2 hour delivery.

The problem is the guy who drives the area that I'm living in. He's so lazy. This isn't the first time that I didn't get my delivery when I was supposed to. This is however the first time I paid for 2 hour delivery. Usually I just pay the $6.30.

One time I shopped at 11 am and at 6:00 pm I called because I still didn't have my groceries. Not so nice when your cupboards are completely bare and you are depending on the groceries to be delivered so that you can eat. They said that the groceries hadn't been picked up yet!!

About an hour later I got a call from the store and they said that a driver was on his way to pick up the order. When my groceries finally did arrive it was after 9 pm and it was the owner of the company who delivered them! He lives all the way across town, about a 40 minute drive. He said it wasn't the first time the driver didn't pick up an order as he was supposed to.

Another time a similar situation, only this time the excuse was the driver had car troubles. Only when the other delivery driver dropped off my groceries and I mentioned about the other guy having car troubles, he told me that was not true. He said it was a consistent problem with the driver in my area who refuses to pick up orders that are more than a few "light" bags, and if he hears "10 bags" or something, he just totally disregards the pickup.

There were other instances as well. Bags not delivered. Wrong bags delivered.

There are good and bad drivers. An example of a bad one is the day I fainted when I answered the door. I banged my head and broke my foot in 3 places and dislocated 2 toes. Despite seeing me on the ground and not being able to get up, he continued to just unload the bags on the floor around me. I was literally entombed in a circle of shopping bags. He had me sign the slip and then he left. I have bad knees and can't kneel on hard surfaces, and I was in so much pain. I had to belly crawl to the couch and haul myself up and then pull my office chair over so that I could get into it and proceed to unpack my groceries.

There are a couple drivers that are so wonderful though! One time about 6 weeks after I broke my foot the girl who delivered my groceries not only brought them into the apartment, but insisted on putting them away for me. I really couldn't afford it but I tried to give her $5.00, but she refused it, and said that she was glad to help. I don't think she's working for the company anymore though. I haven't seen her in months.
