DH and I couldn't get out of town for Christmas this year (the family lives all over the country), DH is on call for work on Christmas day, so we decided to live on the dark side and started to open some of our presents early. The last thing we want is to start celebrating on Christmas and have his pager go off. It sort of kills the spirit. So we'll draw things out all week long.

With both of us leaning towards being hippies, I got him this CD box set for Christmas and we're listening to it right now. Anyone that remembers 1967 at all would appreciate it. Summer of Love, Hits of 1967.

And he got me a John Lennon hits CD. Also very cool because most of my John Lennon is on albums (if you remember those).

What about you? Is anyone indulging early and what goodies have you got?

On the west side of... of... somewhere.
I indulged not entirely by choice... my dad bought me a book from the Amazon Marketplace (alternate sellers)... but didn't check the box for gift-wrap... I don't think that's even an option for marketplace purchases... but anyway...

So I got it yesterday in the mail, no gift wrap. My collection of the Catfantastic series is complete! It's a series of five books of short stories, all science fiction and fantasy, by well known authors of those genres. Andre Norton (RIP, amazing author) and Martin Greenburg edited and assembled the collections... so my dad bought me Book Two, which was my only missing one. Now I need to get all the Dragonfantastic ones... I need to figure out which ones I'm missing...

I bought myself the DVD of Annie Get Your Gun and opened it this morning to watch it.

My Aunt E also gave me some presents and had me open two. (The first one wasn't the one she really wanted me to open.) I got a sherpa fleece lounge gown and a hooded fleece robe.

My mom and I had agreed that, due to our own personal economic crisis, there would be no "boughten" presents for each other this year -- but last night, she handed me a blouse she'd picked up on sale and said she thought I should wear it for Christmas Day. It was very pretty and only $15, so I said, "Well gosh, okay, thank you -- but Mom, remember, we said no presents!"

"Oh, did we say that?" she says absently.

"Yes, Mom, we did -- so promise now, no more presents for me, okay?"

"I hear you," she calls as she hurries down the hall.

But I know her well enough to recognize when she's carefully maintaining plausible deniability. "No, no, hearing's not enough, Mom -- I need you to understand!"

"Oh, I understand," she yells, trying to hold back a giggle.

"MOM! I mean I need AGREEMENT on this!"

"What?" she calls, closing her bedroom door. "Sorry honey, I can't hear you!"

Sheesh. That's my mom!

We have already "opened" our presents to each other. Regarding 1967, that is the year I got out of the navy and in facy did become a Hippy. Regarding John, I have a boxed set of five CDs that he did without Paul (lots of Ono.) And as you know, We chose Imagine as our wedding song, sung by a Ghanan and Croatian with a Russian. Soooo appropriate.

We bought ourselves a new 4 slice toaster, since our 11 year old one died. That's about it. DH and I usually don't buy each other gifts. We spend whatever money we happen to have on gifts for our son, our nieces and nephews, and my family (since they throw tantrums if we don't buy them gifts, even though they can all afford to buy themselves whatever they want to, and they know we are usually broke and care barely afford to feed ourselves.)

DW and I decided it was silly to give each other gifts because in Texas my money and her money is our money making it impossible to actually buy each other something. So what we do is set n number of dollars aside and each of us by ourself something we really want. Works great for us!

Yes, a new TV.

Our 17 (!) year old TV finally died so we purchased a new flat screen TV.
That was a combined Christmas/Birthday and final renovation gift to the both of us. We went from a 28 inch screen to a 42 inch screen. Wow! What a difference. We really don't watch a lot of TV programs, but it's really nice for the one's we do watch.

Does finding things that aren't wrapped yet count? Or opening things to take a peek
then putting them back as found

We almost hit that point this year. DH asks me what would I like and I tell him he's going shopping with me. I did pick up a few pressies last weekend from him that I'm already using. New wine glasses (we were down to 2), a new cutting board, and a wine rack (small one for the kitchen). We tried to go to the kitchen store yesterday but they were closed. This is the place where restaurants go to buy their professional grade stuff and I love that store. Found out they have banker's hours. I'll go tomorrow.

DH got his present from me, a micro stereo shelf system to replace the CD player Jamie broke, last weekend, because he had a few days off and the weather was lousy. iokkiii (Jamie's comment). I accidently discovered a Roger Hodgson (Supertramp) concert DVD hidden away, and Robert has some new samples of aftershave from a perfume store in his side of the medicine cabinet, so I know what I'm getting from him.

I was just thinking about this before.

I just spent the weekend at Tristans so i already have half of my presents

He gave me a cube speaker for my shuffle and a cordless hot glue gun for my craft (both of which i knew about lol), and a couple of hand painted steel cups (the sort you find in hippy shops made in India). His sis gave me a huge bunch of scented tealights from my favourite candle shop, and a ceramic lotus plate for them that she made. His mum gave me a whole bunch of organic stocking fillers and a book on soap making.

I'm very excited because there's more on Thursday!

Things are very lean around here with DH not working and his disability not being approved yet. But I bought some coffee from Gevalia and got the coffee maker free! Good coffee, yum! I also bought DH some sweatpants and a sweatshirt. I got myself a sweatshirt that I can only wear next week as it is a Christmas one.

I have a Secret Santa exchange at work on Wednesday, so if it is a package and not a gift card, I may wait until Thursday so I can open something.

Christmas, I will be making herb roasted turkey breast, mashed potatoes and gravy, rolls and peas. Then for dessert, I am making a chocolate cream pie using jello pudding, graham cracker crust and coolwhip.

Of course the girls will have some turkey too.

nope - i opened my TCS SS gift, & i'm not expecting to open another until 12/27 [maternal extended family gift exchange]. the adults in my family of origin don't exchange anymore. i got books for my nieces & nephews [the ones that aren't grown] that'll be opened on 12/25, & something for my cousin who's closest to me in age [she, my sister & i always get each other something] but that latter will be on 12/27 as well. so no more early presents for me!
