The forecast for the rest of the week, starting tomorrow, is for rain or showers. I am so happy! We so need the rain. Yeah!

Boy, do I remember! I especially remember getting into the elevator at the B-school at U of M during exam time, being sick, and sweating in my Nanook of the North coat. Thank goodness I passed that test, the last one of that semester.

Snow = freezing rain. What about that ice? Not my favorite thing. Did I ever mention that when I was housesitting for my aunt and uncle in the Catskills over my winter break while they vacationed in Acapulca
that my car got stuck in the mud because of freeze/thaw? I had to wait until my brother showed up to get that car unstuck. Thank goodness I had enough food for me, the cat, the dog, the outside birds, and the deer.

Yeah.. I remember schlepping to class sick as a dog in the wintertime. I don't miss it.

Statement as of 5:43 am PST on December 20, 2008

... Series of weather systems to affect northern California through
the Christmas Holiday period...

A cold low pressure system will shift from Alaska into the Pacific
northwest Sunday with another round of valley rain and mountain
snow is expected Sunday into midday Monday. Snow will begin in the
mountains by midday Sunday... and may become heavy at times Sunday
night. Snow levels are expected to begin around 3500 feet in the
Shasta County mountains to 6000 feet in the northern Sierra.
However... snow levels will lower to 1500 to 3000 feet behind the
cold front Sunday night.

Rain will also spread over the valleys by Sunday afternoon. Gusty
southerly winds to 30 mph are possible... along with periods of
moderate rainfall Sunday night. Showers will continue Monday as
cold... unstable air spills into the region.

This weather system may produce up to half an inch of rain in the
valley by midday Monday. One to three feet of snow may fall above
6000 feet... with a few inches of snow possible down to 2000 feet
Monday morning.

Unsettled weather will continue across the region Tuesday through
at least Christmas day as a series of cool weather systems move
across northern California. Snow will continue to accumulate in
the mountains with snow levels generally expected to remain
between 2500 feet and 3500 feet.

Anyone planning travel across northern California during the next
week is advised to be prepared for winter weather. The National
Weather Service encourages you to continue to monitor the latest
forecast... statements and warnings as we approach the Christmas
Holiday travel period.
