My Voodoo Doll in question!

So I transfered to dispatch at my work. Found my work station and started setting it up. While in New Orleans I bought a voodoo doll, more as a gag gift than anything else. However it does help me when I am on the phone with morons. I can stick a pin in it and feel better.

So the other dispatcher had the nerve to say something to my boss about it! While she decorated the whole dispatch room in Christmas attire. Now I don't care about that. Things that say "Merry Christmas" really don't bother me. To each their own. For her to question my "voodoo" doll really ticked me off.

Especially from someone who was wearing the cross for a necklace and cusses all the time. But don't use the lords name in vain!

I am a little offended by the whole ordeal. Of course my boss took my side of the situation. Fair is fair.

that's ridiculous! if she's free to decorate, so are you - has she no idea of what's fair?
Maybe she's afraid that you will put a hex on her!

Tell her you believe in freedom of religion and you practice voodoo! Or Santeria! That'll freak her out!

(Actually has roots in ancient African religions brought by the slaves to the New World.)

That's a funny story! It's also funny that you have a voodoo doll and stick pins in it.

Just tell her the birthday cake story. That every time she's blown out the candles on a birthday cake and made a wish, she's performed a Wicca candle magic spell. People always appreciate hearing that

Ok, well, maybe not

I like the idea of the voodoo doll though

Wow..I didn't know that. So I appreciate hearing it.

Yeah you know the voodoo doll is a stress reliever for me. I deal with animal abusers everysingle day. Talking about shooting cats ect. Last Sunday someone put a cat in one of those big blue mail boxes. Yeah..I stick the black pin in it for them. Sometimes people tell me about an animal they rescued from getting hit by car, I stick a white pin in it. For good luck.

It's a way for me to vent with what I have to hear/see on a daily basis. And it's one item. The whole office is decorated in "merry christmas" stuff. Ribbons, trees, lights, ect...I mean seriously the works. I am half tempted to take the stuff she put in my area down. But I probably won't because well...I think it's pretty.

Oops, made a mistake. I meant to say Pagan. I'm not sure if it's specifically Wiccan or not.

And decorations are pretty, as long as it's not overdone. I've seen quite a few displays that were so over the top they were bordering on gaudy.

The Wiccans do not believe in causing harm with intent, that would be serious bad Karma. So putting pins in a doll with intent is not a Wiccan practice!

That is what I was referring to . But, I'm not sure that particular candle magic is Wiccan either. It's pagan, but I don't know which one.

To wish on candles with good intent could be called positive magic, or positive thoughts. To poke a voodoo doll with ill intentions creates bad magic or negative thoughts. Thoughts can be very powerful. Wishing bad on somebody is not a healthy thing to do.

They make stress balls for hands at work, in all types, some are really pretty cool, but not near as interesting as a doll with pins!

Hey, I just may get myself a voodoo doll.

Get a glazed look in your eye while looking at her and stick a pin in the voodoo doll at the same time. That should freak her out pretty nicely.

Ok Seriously they had a really cute Voodoo Doll you could buy at Barnes and Noble years ago. At the time I was going through a terrible divorce and if i would have thought it worked I would have gave that poor doll a lot of good jabs right between the legs!!

Just tell her it's a "stress doll" not really a voodoo doll, but warn her to keep her hair and fingernail clippings away from you, just in case.

Honestly, I need one of those at work too! It would get a lot of stress out at times.

Thanks everyone. I didn't know if this was a debatable thing which is why I put it in the in my opinion section.

Even though I don't celebrate Christmas, I still buy gifts for those who are close to me that do. I have nothing against it. It doesn't bother me. If she had decorated the office for (okay...I know I will spell this wrong ) Hanukkah it would be the same thing. I think decorations are pretty. If the weather had been better I would have put "Christmas" lights on my house.

In the end though my boss took my side and just laughed at her. As a government agency we are not ever supposed to have the stuff up. However I am in "the field" and our trailer is not open to public. So they are laid back about that kind of stuff. I like that. I am a laid back person myself.

I only get real mad at people who mistreat animals. That's what I focus on. Good thing though is I only work with her once a week and maybe explaining it to her and what it means to me might help her nerves. She has Jesus and I have Sparky. lol..

When you work a job that is as stressful as mine is you take what you can get.

I have to agree with you there - it can be powerful stuff. I do like the idea of the white pins for good luck, like sending a blessing.
Maybe the black pins could just represent the OP's hatred of evil done to animals (or humans, for that matter) and could be more of an obstacle to such doings.
Sometimes I have joked about lighting the black candle with someone's name carved on it, but then I get scared that I'm tempting bad kharma
post #23 of 26
If you are someone who believes in shamanism, wicca, voodoo, whatever, then of course sticking the pins into the doll is not a positive thing.

But then there are some people who buy the doll as a joke, have no idea about the effects of karma and do it as a joke with no secondary meaning.

So...which one are you?

I've never used a voodoo doll or poppet before, but i do not think i ever would, because you don't know what could come back to bite you in the behind.

But yes, that woman sounds horrid. You can't claim to be a good christian (or whatever other religion you follow) then attack other people or become all potty mouth because labelling yourself allows you to be above others.

I'm glad i'm not in your situation because i cannot always hold my tongue

:

Neither. I bought it for venting purposes, plus sparky is pretty. I believe I said that in this thread. I like to stick pins, well I have one black pin and one white for. Black bad, white good.

I deal with horrible people on daily basis. I believe I have said that before too.

It really means nothing to me. It's just when it came into question is when I got my panties in a bunch. lol.

I really just hope she doesn't decorate the office for Easter...all that pink. I hate pink. Blech.
