To give a little background... I was violently abused as a child, and as a result had many night terrors and recurring nightmares. I still remember many of them vividly.

In one of my childhood nightmares, I knew there was a monster outside and our door was unlocked. Each time I had the dream, I would run to the door but just as my fingers touched the lock, the door was wrenched open and the monster came in. I would run and try to hide but my hiding place was always found. I would try to scream to break away from the dream but usually I would be in the middle of an asthma attack and could not scream.

I pretty much quit sleeping when I was a little girl and didn't start sleeping again for many years.

The good news is the dream I had last night.

In the dream, I received a call that there were many "bad" people outside roaming the streets. Suddenly I was in my parent's house again, and I again headed to the back door because I knew it wasn't locked. But instead of trying to lock the door, I whipped it open and saw a surprised monster/bad guy on the other side. I told him, "Get out of here RIGHT NOW, and I MEAN IT!!!" He backed off, and in the dream I finally got to lock that door, and then I called the police.

This dream made me feel pretty good.

It sounds as if you've managed to work thru a lot of the feelings that were causing your nightmares and have finally been able to let go of the past. I'm very happy for you; I'm sure this dream brought you great peace of mind.

OMG I just realized who the monster was. The person who, as a child, I couldn't lock out... the one who hurt me and who knew all my hiding places.

I acted assertively in the dream even though I wasn't lucid dreaming. Well, I guess I'm always partially lucid whenever I dream, but I didn't have to go into full-nightmare-lucid mode, getting rid of the monster came naturally!

Thanks for being happy for me.

I am glad you have worked through your past and at the same time I am sorry you were abused as a child and I wanted to offer my prayers that you continue to heal and that it just keeps getting better.

Yep that dream sounded like healing to me as well! I'm so glad you're able to finally confront your monster, I hope that this is happening in real life too (well, not exactly confronting that person, but putting the past behind you).

Vibes for your continued healing, may you only have happy dreams from now on!

Oh Cat, that sounds wonderful!
What an empowering resolution! I'm just so happy for you!
And it's even better that it happened spontaneously, rather than during an attempt to consciously direct the dream -- I think that means it happened because you really have become that strong! WOOHOO!

Better make yourself a cape and some wristbands, honey, because you are now Wonder Woman!
