Today I was supposed to take my son to school, then come home and take both cats to the vet at 9:45. I got up, and immediately my stomach started cramping and I felt like I was going to puke, so I quick grabbed my hubby and asked him to take DS to school and I ran to the bathroom.

It started snowing that soft, slick, fluffy snow about a 1/2 an hour before they left. Ten minutes later I get a call from my husband telling me they have been in an accident and his truck is totaled, about 1/2 mile from our house.

Some girl was going so fast in the snow and tried to turn, that even when my husband's truck (a 2000 Jeep Cherokee) was stopped, she still hit it so hard it is most likely totaled.
She had tried to turn, and spun around and it was her rear passenger side corner of her Blazer that hit him. Even after she hit him, she was going so fast she spun back another 360 degrees!!

Everyone is okay, hubby is a little sore and DS was pretty shook up so we kept him home from school. The sucky thing is, that I am unemployed (been looking for a while) and my husband opened a new company a year ago and is just barely breaking even. He bought this truck for $5000 as a company vehicle when he first started, and if it is totaled he will get MAYBE $1800 from it. There is no way we can afford to get him a new one, and with the work he does he needs something big enough to transport big/long pieces of metal and plastic, so he can't just get a small car.

So sorry to hear this happened and totaled your vehicle. At least the hubby and son survived.

I think there should be some compensation from the other driver's insurance?

I'm glad to hear that everyone is alright - that must have been really scary!

Things will work out somehow with the car.
At least your family is safe! that the transportation matter gets solved quickly!

I'm so glad to hear that everyone's all right. Snow = slow people!

I hope the other driver's insurance helps to cover the costs for a new vehicle.

So sorry to hear about the accident, but am glad to hear that your DH and DS are not seriously injured.

Contact your insurance company right away and get things started to have her insurance company pay for replacement cost (not blue book value). Hold your ground on this matter.

I am so sorry. I am glad everyone is ok. I see you live in Omaha. I live in Nebraska too. I thought we were going to get the snow your getting so I called into work 12 hours in advance. We never got the snow. I refuse to travel I-80 in a snow storm with all the semi trucks.

If your husband was stopped, it's clearly her responsibility.

Thank goodness they're all okay.

The first person he called was our insurance company, even before the cops. lol The cop said he usually hates writing tickets in snowy weather, but he said she was a huge idiot and gave her a bit fat one.

He heard from the insurance agency (they both have State Farm, so that makes it easy) and she is completely at fault and is accepting complete liability.

My husband says if they try to total his truck he would rather them cut him a check for the most they will give him, and he will just fix it himself. The most he needs is a new bumper, hood, grill, radiator, and a couple other things he could easily fix himself.

Thanks everyone! I was really worried there for a while, and was panicked when he called for me to come get them.

Glad to hear that everyone is OK! Could've been a lot worse.
When I had my accident, DH got the maximum replacement value (not much) on our van and then fixed it himself. It saved a bundle doing that.

If this vehicle is being used as a commercial vehicle and you depend on it for income, her insurance is also responsible for lost income and down time.

And if your son has any nightmares or other residual effects, you are also entitled to compensation for that. Just keep a diary for a few weeks, just in case. You won't be greedy, just taking care of your family.

Wow I'm glad your DH and DS are not injured, it could have been so much worse. That silly silly girl should not even be driving since she doesn't seem to have much commonsense.

Many vibes that your DH manages to get his truck fixed up and good to go at minimum cost!

I agree, it could have been way worse. When I brought my son home from the accident (hubby had to stay to wait for the cops, then I picked him up later) and for the rest of the day I made him sit in the middle of the back seat. Luckily my car is new enough that we have shoulder belts on all 3 rear seats. I was just so paranoid that some stupid idiot would get crazy and hit us and we wouldn't be as lucky.

This afternoon at around 1:30 my husband decided to take my car to meet the tow truck (yes, it took that long for the tow truck to get there, from 8:50am) and then go to his work for a minute to pick a couple things up. He must have only told our son that he was going to meet the tow truck. I was exhausted and falling asleep on the sofa, so I decided to go lay down for a bit. At 3:45 my son came running in bawling about how dad had been gone for a long time, that he was just supposed to go meet the tow guy. He had tried calling him but couldn't get ahold of him. That was one of the reasons he went to his work, so he could pick up his phone charger b/c his phone had died. I explained to him that daddy had to do a few other things and he would probably be home soon. Luckily about two minutes later he called. Greyson started bawling again b/c he was so relieved. Poor kid.
