Are there any non pate Wellness canned foods?? Nora just will not eat much of the pate Wellness kitten at all. I have resorted to trying to just give her 1/4 of a 3oz can at a time and give more if she eats it all, but she will only eat about 1/8 of the can at a time, if that.

Milo is also getting to the point where he refuses to eatit. He won't even touch it, hasn't for the past 2-3 days.

I'm thinking maybe I can try giving them an adult non pate canned food if they have one.

Wellness also makes pouches - have you seen them? They are small, and probably a bit more expensive, but if your cats don't like the pate, you might want to try them.

Good luck. I have three cats, and two of them are very picky. I've tried a LOT of different canned foods!

Merrick has a few flavors that are more like ground meat in gravy, which my cats prefer. Cowboy Cookout, Grammy's Chicken Pot Pie, and Thanksgiving Day Dinner are the flavors that are not pate. They run about $1 a can.

They don't sell Merrick cat food anywhere near me.
There is only a dog specialty store that sells the dog food.

The dog specialty store may be willing to make a special order for you along with their Merrick dog food order. They would probably want you to order a case to make it worth their while, but you never know. Ask and see if they will help out.

Some of the food companies will send you a sample by mail. I tried several that way. If you find one that will be eaten
then you could always order it online. I get most of my pet food that way because they offer coupons that make up for the shipping cost.

Good luck on the food search.

Where do you get the Wellness pouches? I can find the Wellness and Wellness Core dry food, but have never seen the pouches.

My cats won't touch the pate either. They'll eat the compressed food that's cut into chunks sometimes, but usually wait until I open something that has a texture more like real pieces of meat.

The Petco where I got my Wellness canned food and Wellness Core has the pouches. They are sitting in a box right next to the canned food.

I have somewhat success!! I bought a few different flavors of the non-kitten Wellness cans, and last night and this morning tried the beef and chicken flavor. That is a BIG hit, at least so far, and is the first time Nora has licked her bowl clean! She usually leaves big chunks of it left. I'm still only giving them each 1/4 of a 3oz can at a time, but if she continues to eat it well I'll try going back up to 1/2 can at a time.

I also bought turkey, chicken, and chicken and lobster. Hopefully she likes those also, and I'll just keep switching it up so they don't get bored.

Definitely change it up. I made the mistake of only offering two different flavors to my boys--and for 4 months it went fine! Then there was a violent protest--okay it was violent, but they refused the food, I'm glad I only had 4 or 5 cans left.

We are now on a very strict schedule--drives hubby nuts! He also hates that I literally have to sit with Jack to get him to eat wet food. Harley has to be locked in the basement to eat or he'll eat Jacks--it takes Jack a good 30-40 minutes to finish 1.25-1.5 oz of wet!

They get chunky style wet food one (its a 3 oz can so they split it) the next two days they share a 5.5-6 oz can of pate style food, then chunky again etc. They have like 10 flavors of chunky style and 5 or 6 flavors of pate.

You're lucky you can get them to eat that much variety. My girls are very picky. They sniff at chicken and fish, then walk away. They'll eat turkey only after they're convinced that nothing better is going to be offered. They want beef, but only the kind that has pieces the texture of real meat and they prefer it in gravy. Won't touch pate no matter what flavor it is.

You wouldn't believe the number of cans of cat food that went to the food bank before I learned to buy only one of each new flavor that I wanted to try.
Okay, so I'm a slow learner, but I caught on eventually.

Since they like beef I thought I might try venison, but I haven't found any place where I can buy it. I really don't want to pay the shipping on just a few cans to try out.

venison is close to lamb not beef

buffalo and bison are close to beef

I would like to get the point where they split a 3oz can twice a day. That's my goal. At least Nora is starting to eat what I give her, she used to not do that, no matter how much was there. She licked her bowl clean again this evening! Yay!! One quarter of a can twice a day is better than nothing.

I also have to sit with them when they eat. Milo will eat his, or what he wants of his, and then thinks hers must be much better so he'll push her out of the way to eat hers and refuse to eat anymore of his. Confusing, yes? I have to sit there to make sure he doesn't push her away, because she doesn't stop him. She'll just stop eating. I tried locking one or the other of them in our laundry room (3 feet from where they eat in the kitchen) so they can eat in peace, but whoever is in the laundry room just plain refuses to eat, and the one in the kitchen stops eating to sit by the laundry room door sympathizing with the other. Grumble. lol Oh, what we do for our cats.

I found the best thing to do with them is to give them each their 1/4c of food in the morning right after they eat their wet food and let them pick at it until it is empty, and then at 4:30-5:30 I put another 1/4c in each of their bowls again and let them pick until it is gone. This has seemed to work well, I just need to keep an eye on them to make sure Nora isn't loosing weight. Milo doesn't push Nora out of the way as much if they aren't forced to eat a certain times. I just put their bowls side by side in the kitchen. Occasionally they will each come up to the bowls by themselves to eat and I don't have to fight Milo off Nora. They still eat their wet food, though, so that is good.

I'm really happy, too, b/c I started their transition to Wellness Core from Iams Kitten, and I was afraid they would pick out the Iams and leave the Core, but they actually pick out the Wellness and eat that first, and a bunch of Iams will be left and they gradually pick at that through the day. YAY!! They love it, I'm so happy!! No digestinal distress yet.

Interesting. I think buffalo would be even harder to find than venison. Maybe I'll look for some lamb. I think that's one I missed in all the experimenting.

My two kitties love the Wellness pate food- thank goodness. You are making good progress-- it's hard when they are kittens because you want to free feed and not limit them. It was easy to transition my adult cat over to pate because I just started doing scheduled feedings and cutting back on the dry. She was hungry, so she ate the wet.

Wellness is now selling the pouches and they are grain free BUT I would probably have to get a 2nd job to feed them exclusively to my cats. They are $1.20 per 3 OZ pouch here!! My cats could easily eat 5 of those a day between the two of them-- yikes! That would be like $180 a month on cat food.

Another chunk in gravy type food is innova Flex, which is new. It is full of veggies which I'm not a huge fan of but other than that it's a pretty good food. I don't know if you can get it anywhere around you though.

I have found wellness canned food without grains in chunks, sliced cubed and minced at my local Petco store.

My kitty loves them.

They come i the 3.3 ounce cans and the larger 5.2 ounces and are $1.39 and $1.79.

Get the Petco card and get 10% off when you buy 10 or more cans.

I hope this helps
