Does anyone have any experience using Vectra flea medicine? I have been using Frontline on my two cats but today my vet tech suggested this stuff. I'm having a hard time finding any reviews or info on it though. Can anyone help? Thanks!

It's a relatively new product. Here's the manufacturer's site for pet owner info: http://www.summitvetpharm.com/Pet-Owners/

Here's the drugs.com link for info: http://www.drugs.com/vet/vectra.html

I haven't tried it, but to be honest I'm reluctant to try anything new until it's been on the market for a while. Advantage and Frontline (I switch around between the two occasionally) are still working fine for me, so I see no reason to switch. I've been using them for years without any trouble.

If Frontline is no longer working for you, it might be worth asking your vet for more information on Vectra. I think the concern is that pests may gain resistance to familiar products, so manufacturers continue to introduce new products to combat that problem. Hopefully others here who have tried it will have something to add.

I see this is an old thread, but am responding in hopes that this can let others know of our experience. I have two indoor cats that we applied the vectra flea medicine on a few weeks ago. Within a week of application both cats had severe sores that occurred on the application site. Took them back to the vets who said bathing wouldnt be effective since a week had passed (which I'm not so sure of now). They refunded our money and gave them both a steroid shot under the sores. One cat became severely ill and is on antibiotics and steroids (having respiratory issues). She still has a huge scab on the application site that were keeping an eye on. The other one is being taken to the emergency clinic tonight because the area where we applied the product is now an open wound. We have never had this issue with other flea meds (usually use advantage). I have just sent an email to the makers of the product. We will never use this product again.

To my knowledge, Vectra has been discontinued. I use Frontline Plus for Lilly and it works very well. I order form 1-800-PetMeds and I get a years supply for only $153.22.

Sadly, no, its still on the market. My vet gave us a ten month supply, plus four free tubes if you send the vectra company a copy of your reciept, as they are doing some type of rebate deal right now. We gave them back to him and he refunded us for those plus the two tubes we did use.
Our cat we just took to the 24 hr place advised us to treat with neosporin and vitamin e until healed. He also advised to notify the makers of the product.

I didn't know it was still on the market. Try Frontline Plus. I've always had very good results with it. It kills all existing fleas within 12 hours. Each application lasts for an entire month, too.
