I posted when I first joined that Miss Kitty seemed to have thinning hair in front of her ears. I cleaned them about 3 weeks ago with Malacetic Otic cleaner when I first noticed the thinning thinking perhaps there was something in her ears... she didn't seem to scratch or bother them. She is still somewhat ferral so she doesn't like to be *messed* with much. Well Thurs evening I noticed she was scratching her chin an awful lot so I picked her up and checked (I am bug paranoid and since we found her outside I always panic over fleas) I didn't see anything. The next day I saw head shaking and more scratching so I had mom hold her and I got out the flashlight and really looked down in her ears... OMG poor baby one ear was a little pink with a dot of blood in it the other was full of goo and blood... I got her in to the vet about 2hrs later (i was expecting mites or something really gross) but they did a culture and found nothing. He gave her meds for a yeast infection so we are putting those drops in once daily. He mentioned allergies... has anyone had a cat with ear infection before? If its allergies can anyone recommend a good single protein food to try her on to start weeding out possible causes?

Thanks
Jen

Jack had a awful yeast infection in his ear--took us weeks to battle it. Once we finally beat it we never had issues again. Has no food allergies etc.

My Callie used to have constant ear infections. Finally took a culture and found out it was a yeast infection. Took us a couple of months to totally knock it all out, but she's not had a problem since.

Your kitty could be allergic to something in the food you're feeding, or something you put on your carpet, or any matter of things. Keep a diary of when you notice the itching, what's been going on, how long after feeding, etc. You might be able to figure it out by tracking things.

Thanks everyone... she is still pawing at them some but not nearly as much since we started the meds. I went out yesterday and got her some Natural Balance Potato and Duck canned and dry she will eat pretty much anything although since I had been giving her the Solid Gold Blended Tuna I think she prefers that best.. of course! lol I am going to try her on this for awhile and see how her ears do hopefully things will clear up and her coat will grow back... poor thing she has had about everything a little kitty can get.
