Video games, music, tv, peers, what else can be blamed other then the parents themselves? The kids should know better, that they chose to do this has nothing to do with video games.
But it's succeeded in doing one thing they probably wanted - getting them attention and stirring people up.

I would be surprised if a good portion of TCS members don't agree with the "games are bad" mentality. Most of us in our 20s are gamers or are in a relationship with someone who is. This doesn't suddenly make us violent people. Anyone else here remember playing the Mortal Kombat games as a kid?

But yes, I do agree they shouldn't have been playing that particular game. Not only for the violence but because there are sexual themes (ok, a lot more than just themes). The store I work in sells and rents games. I always make sure parents getting the GTA games and other M rated games know exactly what is in the game - the 15 and 16 year olds hate this!
Then there's the other response, parents that get mad because I dare to question their choice - even if they didn't know anything about the game.

Well said. I truly believe that when it comes to influencing a child, nothing can beat mom and dad.

I agree. Whilst there are alot of games unsuitable for younger people, parents are the ones who are meant to be the role models and teachers who set guidelines and rules. Personally the way i am has been affected by my parents, and the way i was treated in high school. My short fuse comes from my father, if i play killing games it only helps to give some relief when i'm stressed.

Better you kill a cartoon than kill a human.

I do think the parents of the child/children have not been monitoring them properly or have given them too much of a loose leash...

I totally agree. Blame everything and everyone else but themselves

I've watched some really horrific films as well as in my younger days, but it didn't make me go and do a replay on a stranger on the street.

It has NOTHING to do with the video game! NOTHING!

It's the parents responsibility to teach thier children how to treat animals..Where were they?!

I have a 7yr old who plays Mortal Kombat and he was taught that it's just a video game! He was also taught how to treat animals

It's the parents fault they weren't supervising these boys!

Yes, I let my kids play violent games, Yes, I let them watch Horror Movies, Yes, they know the difference between reality and FICTION!!!!!

First - six year olds should NOT have been playing Grand Theft Auto!!! Where were the stupid parents in all of this - the boys probably begged and the adults gave in. Bad move.

Second - something is seriously wrong with those boys or there is something wrong in their homes to hurt an animal and I hope they and their parents get some counseling. (I would love to use some 2x4 therapy on the parents! )

Third - as part of the "punishment", children and adults should be ordered to donate their time to an animal shelter, come in, look after cats, clean cages, etc. Supervised, of course.

That poor little kitten baby ...

I'm so pleased you said "Supervised" because i wouldn't trust them alone with an animal

I agree. Where were the parents in all of this?? I don't blame video games for the things that people do. We all have brains, it's how we use that and nothing more. I think that those kids AND their parents should have to sit through therapy sessions until they both turn the age of 18. Maybe that'll keep them from becoming more then animal killers..

I wish that more parents would teach their kids that video games are a complete & total waste of mental energy. Because they are.

Yes, the kids should not have been playing that game, period, but it's unfair and silly to blame an inanimate object for something the parents could/should have prevented.
