I got my kitten from a shelter about a month ago and he came home with fleas. He scratches his neck occasionally and someone in the house got a few flea bites. I don't think they're too bad because I don't feel any scabs on his neck. I ordered Frontline Plus today. Should I give him a bath before I do the Frontline? I don't have any flea shampoo. I've usually washed my cats with Dawn. Is there a special shampoo I should use that's safe? I don't know why we still have fleas here since it's 20-30 degrees. Any suggestions?

It's been my experience that if humands are getting bit--the house is infested.

I wouldn't worry about bathing kitty prior to application. If the house is infested better treat all pets for the next 3 months.

A lot her recommend DE Diatomaceous Earth for flea infestations. My dad works for Orkin--I used their products, safe for pets, I had no more bites after 24 hours of use--the cats still had fleas on them for about 3 days (we had them pretty bad). We still used Advantage for a full 3 months upon recommendation of my dad who says the flea cycle can last that long. The boys were also treated for tapeworm which they both had, Jack pretty severely.

For frontline to be affective - no baths 3 days prior or 3 days after application.

I agree you'll need to look into treating the house....no help there though.

Also I believe that something in frontline like excites the fleas--so they like all comes to the surface and as a warning may freak you out a little. I hated it switched to Advantage and liked it much better.
