i just got new furniture and i don't want the cats to scratch it. i tried every spray there was on the old furniture, to no avail. i read abt using balloons on the furniture to keep cats off. i taped them to the corners. i'm also using a spray bottle. has anyone used any of those pads that are activated by touch or motion? the ones that vibrate or emit a loud beep to scare the cats off? please help! they have two scratch posts, and use them sometimes, but i'm afraid they will want to scratch the new couch.
thanks

If I were you, I'd put the scratch posts right by the new furniture. Cats love the novelty of new things so will be sure to want to check it out (new furniture).

If the furniture (I'm assuming a couch/loveseat/chair, etc) isn't leather, I found that getting a roll of 3 inch wide clear packing tape works. Put the tape on the areas where cats would likely scratch.......cats hate tape. They might still try to scratch these areas but the tape will protect their claws from going through it......and the crinkly noise it makes will annoy them. After awhile they won't bother at all and then you can remove the tape. this works well on carpeted stairs, too...on the sides of the rungs where they like to scratch.
