london but about to move to forres
Our cat Panda has been diagnosed with Lymphoma and the cancer has spread to his kidneys and chest. The vet mentioned Buprenex as a good option but wasn't willing to prescribe it. Please, please, can anyone help -maybe a website or a vet who prescribes? I live in London, Panda is 12 years old, was on Prednisone and is now on a longterm injection. The vet said it would certainly improve his quality of life and gave us the correct dosage - but not a prescription.

I do not know of any other way to get it.
I still have some of Coco's left and use it when she gets bad pain.
How come the vet would not give you any?

I suggest that you call around to different vets in your area to get a prescription. I believe it is a controlled substance, therefore you aren't going to be able to get it online.

You can get it online if you have a signed paper from the vet saying he wants him on it.
My vet offered to do that with Coco's Inhalers.

Your vet is aware that the drug is not recommended for cats with kidney and liver disease. Please read

Though why would the Vet have mentioned it as "a good option" then? That seems rather cruel to me, to tell an owner about a medication or treatment and how helpful it would be - but then to refuse to prescribe it. Why even mention it then? How horrible to be told there is something out there that can lessen your pet's pain but your Vet refuses to prescribe it. And really, this kitty is terminal so it all comes down (at least to me), weighing the pros and cons. At the end of the day I'd choose controlling my terminal cat's pain over damage the med could cause to the already impacted kidneys? Just my 2 cents. Curious to know what the Vet's rationale was for being unwilling to prescribe it.

I agree.

I'm so sorry to hear about your kitty.
I hope that something can be done to help him.

I agree with the other posts. If you have a terminal issue, then what would be more reasonable is a QUALITY of life not a risk of POSSIBLE kidney and liver damage.

Scroll down this article and look at the International Veterinary sites regarding feline pain management. Maybe you can find something that would be informative to ask your vet.

Another vet may be more sympathetic with the situation. Wishing your baby comfort.
