I found out last night that my cousin, Travis, and his wife, Jen, are expecting their 3rd baby in May!!!!!! All babies are blessings, but this little one is a special gift. Our family has been waiting for him/ her for a very long time.
After 3 years of trying to have kids, they had Lexi. Lexi is an ADORABLE 6 year old now. Unfortnatly, Lexi was born without a Thyroid. Because of this she has to take medication everyday. She also has to go in every few months for blood work to make sure the medicine is working. Other than that she is healthy.
After a few more years of trying, they had Jake. Jake was born with a potentionally fatal birth defect called Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia (CDH). This means that he was born with a hole in his diaphragm (the muscle that sepatates the abdominal area from the chest cavity). This allowed the organs that are supposed to be in the abdomin to get into his chest cavity, preventing his heart and lungs to not develop properly due to lack of room.
Jake died when he was 6 months old. He spent his ENTIRE life in the NICU of CHILDRENS HOSPITAL OF PHILADELPHIA. He never got to go home.
Earlier this year they became pregnant again, but it ended in a miscarriage.
Even with all this going on, they still continue to give. They have spent the last 3 years being foster parents to infants. They were even planning to adopt a few of their fosters.
With all they have been through, our family is ESTATIC to hear that Jen is pregnant again. Since she is 3 months along there is a less of a chance of miscarriage. Because of Jake, they had other test done toX make sure the baby didnt have any birth defects. So far all the test are normal
