I had one of my photos of Nakita 'stolen' and used by another poster on another forum. The forum moderator knew Nakita and took the pic down after alerting me to the situation.

So, this is just a warning to everyone who wants to keep the rights to your pictures, since others may use them for other forums, online contest etc. As Princess Purr does, put a watermark through the picture so that someone else cannot use them as their own!

I'm currently taking down my other pics of Nakita, so that is why you may see pics missing if you go through some of my old threads!

Thanks for reading!

Oh my gosh... that's awfully rude! Not taking your pictures down, the person stealing Nakita's pictures. ARGH! I guess I'll have to go see how to do a watermark using my photo utility. Thanks for the alert!

Kass, this is just terrible. Thank goodness the moderator of the other forum knew Nakita and was able to alert you.

Just for one other suggestion, and I know Val does this. When you watermark or otherwise mark your photo, be sure you put it in the middle or near the subject matter. If you put it on the edge it can easily be cropped out.

that is very important when it comes to watermarking. alot of people do it at the bottem or the very top...and that really doesn't do any good because if can get cut off to easy.

Wow.. i guess it is important to ask for permission first.

Thanks for allowing me to post one of your pix in my babies' site. Is it still okay to leave it there, Kass?

Cheers!

Watermarking is still not going to do much. Someone can still claim to be the person, and who is going to question someone about a watermark? There really is no safety, but maybe the watermark will be a deterent. Even many online contests don't confirm you are the original owner, and no one can track down every contest even if they wanted to!

I think it's just another thing to consider when posting pics on the internet. I've already had a run in with a creep when I posted a personal photo on the internet. I'll never do that again!

Gurlpower, no worries. That pic is fine!

Kass, I deleted your most recent thread (since you said you were having problems with it).

I guess if the person was really intent on stealing a picture they would do it watermark or not. I still think a watermark would be a deterrant, just because it ups your risk of getting caught. Kind of like an alarm system - to the casual theif it is definitely a deterrant, but to the pro it isn't.

if you watermark with your email address, or your website then it really really ups the risk of them getting caught. Then not only would they be stealing you pick but they would actually have to be able to pull of being you.

That was very rude of whoever did that! Kass I am glad you found out about it- I will miss those sweet sweet pictures of Nakita- but you have my email address and I HOPE you send them to me from time to time!

I have a friend who had this happen- and the person who stole her picture, put the cat on a rescue page with a huge sob story about what was wrong with the cat before it got *healthy* and asking for donations to help pay the vet bill!

Believe me when I say I'm very knowledgable about the dark side of the internet. I just let my guard down on Nakita, cause she's so darn cute I didn't think *evil* people would bother her.

It takes all kinds to make the world go around! You learn a lesson everyday!

Thanks for everyone's feedback!

Kass,

Oh my goodness. Don't people have a life. It's just too bad that there are people like that out in the world. Nakita is a beautiful cat and I've loved looking at her photos. She definately has unique looks and I can see how the moderator identified her.

OH Kass! That is so rude! I can't believe that someone would do that. but I'm a very honest person and there unfortunately a lot of dishonest people in the world. I do hope that you found out who it was and give them a big piece of your mind!

I do hope that you will share those beautiful pics of Nakita with me! She is one of the most beautiful cats ever! I think you've got my email addy,so feel free to send them to me too!

Once again, I'm sorry that you had to go through that!
