We just finished our gradual switchover to feline pine, and for the most part I am loving it! (Smells so much better, no clay dust, no tracking clay everywhere)

Now that we've finished the mixing reg litter and feline pine transition, I'm using this feline pine litterbox that has the tray with a grate set on top of a regular pan tray.

I noticed this morning that when they pee a lot of it goes straight through the pellets and grate and there is a little pool of pee in the bottom box. Not a huge deal, but kind of gross and unsanitary for that to just sit there in a pool (I had only planned to dump the bottom box once a week or so.) Have any of you had this problem? I thought about putting a small layer of pellets in the bottom to absorb it. Would that work?

It not only will work, it is essential. If you look on the FP litter box web site they actually recommend this.

See step 1:

I miss using the FP pellets! They are *soo* nice! Jeta won't use them.

Wow, good job me, not reading instructions!

I'll wash out the bottom tray again tonight and then put a handful of pellets down there. Silly mama!

Thanks for your help!

Now...if only they made a FP box w/ taller sides...or covered...it would be perfect.

My cats will use the FP, but apparently, they don't like it as much as the WBCL and they won't poop in it...just pee. *sigh* why can't cats just go along with whatever we want them to do?

To the OP: the pellets in the bottom of the pan will soak up all the excess pee. The key is to shake the pan often....i.e. 2-3 times a day so that you sift out the dust down into the bottom. Also, I find that emptying it as regularly as possible helps keep the amount of dust in the bottom low, so that it can dry out (and won't get caked-on).
