A question for anyone who knows! I was wondering what the average sizes are for a Maine Coon Kitten. We're looking at a kitten who's about 9 weeks old and he's around 13-14 inches from nose to tail. I didn't pick him up, so I don't know how much he weighed, if I had to guess I'd say around 4lbs.

Is this large, small, or average?

The article in Cat Fancy a month or two ago said 15 pounds, I think.

In other words, big.

The average cat is about a pound per month of age. However, the larger breeds might be a pound more per month of age. Male Maine Coons that are fully developed will go an easy 15 lbs; most can go 17/18 lbs and not be fat. It depends on the parents size. Females could only be about 10-14 lbs (they would be smaller then males).

If he's 4 lbs at 2 months of age, he's a little more then I'd like, but he could just be having a growth spurt. He sounds like a good 17/18 lb male by the time he's full grown. It will take MC's about 4 yrs to fully mature in body and coat.
