I had to take Maverick into the vet yesterday b/c I noticed that he was leaking urine, and while I was there I had the vet run a senior blood panel on him b/c he is getting older (almost 14). She just called me back with the results, and told me that there's something serious going on with his liver, and needs to run further tests to determine what it is - either by taking a piece of his liver by doing surgery, or by running an ultra-sound. I asked her which would be the best route to go, and she opted for the surgery. She's gonna call me back tomorrow to let me know if we can set up a payment plan to do the surgery, b/c we don't have that much money available. We had to dip in to our "emergency" fund as it was just to take Maverick in yesterday - so now we're tapped out financially. I don't know what we're gonna do if they won't allow us to set up a payment plan.

I am really devastated by this.
I've had Maverick since he was about a year old, and he's my very special kitty. I know he can't live forever, but I'm not ready for this.

Does anyone know anything about liver disease, or other liver-related problems? Can it be cured, or at the very least controlled with medication??

Please! Someone tell me that this isn't a death sentence, and that something can be done for him.

It all depends on what the problem is, one of my bridge babes had raised liver enzymes for 11 months, it developed into something more serious after 10 months. My latest foster cat has raised ALT levels, we aren't sure what is going on, as the vet he was at last week didn't do any further tests, and he is too thin to go through any invasive tests (how he got through a dental is amazing).

Good luck for Maverick

I realize that no one can give me an answer till there's something more definitive.
But, of course, I had to ask. I'm completely in the dark about liver-related diseases in cats, b/c I've never had one who suffered with it.

I'm trying to remain calm and not get too worked up about this till I know what the outcome is, but to be honest, I've been bawling since I talked to the vet. I love Maverick with all my heart & soul, and this is heartwrenching to me. I can't stop thinking that his time with me may be shart, and it's killing me.
I'm having a hard time even writing this, b/c the tears won't stop flowing.

Any info you have Sharky will be greatly appreciated.
