Well, I officially had my first sign of winter this morning. While I was getting ready, I noticed that the car needed to be de-iced so I trekked downstairs to dig out my mittens. (I try to avoid bringing up the winter stuff for as long as possible) So after several minutes of digging through the storage room, I pull out the winter basket...and get a truely evil glare from Freya, who has apparently claimed that as her latest favourite spot to sleep.

Needless to say, I went to work without mittens this morning as she was most certainly not moving.

So has anyone else had thier official 'sign of the season' yet?

We've been getting Lake Effect snow for the past three days straight; it's finally starting to add up. We've been watching the grass disappear underneath the snow slowly but steadily. This morning I actually had to find my gloves and go scrape all the snow and ice off of the van before I went out.

I also brought my son a whole pot of snow upstairs to play with in the sink since he's sick.

I think we had our first signs of winter a few weeks back when the frost started settling on the ground first thing in the morning...I love looking out at it, especially when I'm sat indoors snug with my first coffee of the day
Sooo good!

When the weather forecast for the past couple days was "Lake effect snow warning is in effect". Yep, it's now winter and I just saw the forecast for Thursday night and Friday. Lake effect snow watch for heavy lake effect snow.

Well, a sign of winter here would be when the Tulle fog rolls in, the days are grey and it rains.

It is sunny today and in the 60's. Over the weekend it will be 70 and sunny.

So, no, no sign of winter.

Looks like yesterday's 'sign' was right. We had 8" of snow this morning.

At least Freya let me have my mitts today.

I hate the tulle fog! We didn't much last year. They are building up so much of the farmland that the fog was only in the outlying areas, and not much in the city.

When I start wearing my wool blend hunting socks around the house. (No, I don't hunt. The socks are warm, though.)

The other sign is when my sis gets her fireplace going.

Signs of winter around here is the cats start piling up on the bed at night. Now I remember why we have a KING sized bed!!!
It's also a sign around here when Heet goes into the gas tanks of the cars, and the chairs come off the deck and into the basement for storage.

It is a sign of winter when I sit down and am instantly covered in heat-seeking cats.

The other sign is that guys start growing whiskers

One sure sign of cold winter weather is all the cats have static. When I pat them they snap and if its in bed at night you can actually see the static when you pat them. Ponds have skimmed over and the wood stoves full and going.

hey that happens to us no matter what the season!

Winter has made itself know here for at least a week now. We've had snow, icy roads and windshields. Plugging in the car is definitely a sure sign of winter though.
