Yesterday was orientation and class registration day at the college. So now I have my schedule for first of the year. I am surprised about one thing and this that I have no math class. I would have thought for sure that I would have had at least 2 core classed but I only have 1 plus 2 course specific classes.

Here is the schedule:
Beg. Document Processing 8am-10:15am 5 credits
Intro to Microcomputers 9:10am-10:15am 3 credit
Fundamentals of Eng. 1 12:45pm-1:50pm 5 credits
Total of 13 credit hours per week

I know the first 2 classes look confusing because it looks like I am in 2 classes at one time. But here is how it was explained to me. I go to my first class for one hour and then I leave that one to go to my second class. When the second class is done I leave and go back to my first class to catch my second hour. Then I have an hour break that I can go and eat lunch.

Now on to financial aid, I actually did not make out bad there. I was not able to fully find that out till yesterday when they got a look at my schedule. First I got the Hope Grant, that will cover my tuition and fees and such. Then I have the Pell grant which will cover and remaining fees plus books and supplies. Whatever is not used that quarter comes back to me via a check about mid-term. On top of all of that I will also get a 500.00 voucher for completing my GED. Other than paying for gas and lunch I think I will be fine.

I learned something yesterday that I did not know before. I also get a work ethic grade. We get graded anywhere from a 0 (bad) to 3 (very very good). And for work ethics they will be looking for being on time, always in class, dressing nicely, get along with others etc. And apparently they do ask about these things if they call the school and ask how we did (employers). So it looks like I will have to go shopping because I am just a jeans, t-shirt, tennis shoes kind of person. And I ain't got a clue what kind of clothes to buy. They say we don't have to show up in suits. So I assume nice dress shirts and slacks. I really have no clue.

You mean you didn't pick the classes yourself? I hope leaving your first class for an hour doesn't make you miss anything. Good luck!

No the woman the runs the diploma did. But I was there with input. Mainly I was game as long as I had no night classes and was out no later then 3pm.

No I won't at least it does not look likely. The two teachers in question came up with the arrangement. Plus there is another student in my class that also has the same arrangement.

That's good. It's always nice to have help registering. Once I'm past my maternity leave (probably next fall) I'll go see my advisor and have her help me schedule my classes.

Yeah they are pretty nice up there. And if within the first 3 days I see that this schedule does not work because of the class changes I can drop one of them till next quarter and it will be like I never had the class. So that is an upside to all this.

One question is ot bettr to have loose leaf paper or norebooks? I have the first 2 weeks ro charge what I need for the quarter. I know basically what I need but not how much of each I need.

I think most universities have a drop period. As for notes... that is really personal preference. You'll get a feel of what works best for you after a few classes and it may even vary from class to class. I usually carry a binder with folders for handout and loose papers then a notebook for each subject. This semester I've used just a 3-ring binder because I'm not taking many notes in class but my law class has TONS of handouts.
