I just got back from the vet and my cat has roundworms. The vet didn't seemed concerned because it's very common. I, on the other hand, am freaking out!!! I read that when humans get it, the larvea migrate though the body and infect brain tissue, eyeball tissue, etc. An infection can cause blindness! So...please please tell me something to calm me down. How common is it for a human to get it from a cat? I've never been a germaphobe but I feel like the microscopic eggs could be anywhere! I could have already ingested them! Help!!!

It sounds pretty terrible, but unless you're licking your own hands after digging with your bare hands in the garden, or you're eating raw rodents, it would be almost impossible for you to get them.

It wouldn't be a bad idea to go through the worming process (2 or 3 treatments, unless you use one of the topical treatments), and in the meantime use disposable latex gloves for changing the litter box. Then, when the treatment is completely finished, dump the litter box and clean it thoroughly.
