Recomendations for the best cat care book?

I have a friend who asked me what the best cat care book would be to buy. She has never owned a cat.
I grew up with cats so I have never even given it a thought.
I tried to search the forums but kept getting fatal errors.

Thanks so much for sharing your favorite book on the cat.

For information about common medical issues, especially if someone has never had a cat before, this book is great:
Cat Ownerâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]s Home Veterinary Handbook by Delbert Carlson MD and James Griffin MD

And for information about all behavior related issues including litter box related problems, these books are absolute must haves because they cover everything. For a new cat parent they are invaluable:
Twisted Whiskers by Pam Johnson Bennett
Psycho Kitty? by Pam Johnson Bennett
Think Like a Cat by Pam Johnson Bennett

Catessa, I hope you can persuade your friend to buy them all. I promise you it will be money well spent and she won't be sorry.

Think like a cat was recommended to me by a cat loving, shelter volunteer friend. It's awesome! I've since recommended it to people who have problems with shy kitties, and they've found it very helpful.

I also like the Johnson Bennett books, but the very first book I had as a newbie pet parent was Cats for Dummies (since my girl was already 4 when I adopted her). I admit I'm a fan of the Dummies format for many topics, but I did like my cat book a lot those first few weeks, for ease of immediately finding help on any question, written for someone who had no clue about kitties.

I was lucky - friends gave me some books, etc., as a sort of 'shower' gift for the new arrival.

These books are all pretty good ones. In fact, I bought most of them on the recommendations of various forum members. I also purchased The Cat Bible during that particular spending spree.

I have just recently finished The Cat Bible (just published last year) and it is full of a lot of really helpful information for newer cat owners. A lot of it confirms things that you can learn by visiting The Cat Site regularly, but it is a really nice reference that I found easy to read with lots of information about all the different aspects of owning a cat.

You can buy it on Amazon.com: The Cat Bible
