HI everyone!

Okay here is my problem.... My 6 month old Siamese mix, Marie will scratch the carpet at my bedroom door. Its started when she was not allowed in our bedroom at night with us because she would not just pick one spot and sleep... she was all over us, padding, purring, meowing, trying to lick our faces; and for my hubby who works two jobs this was just not a good thing. ;-) So now here is the twist because i'm sure all of you who is reading this are thinking... get a scratching post.... she has one and uses it all the time, she loves it!

I have used the stinky boundry spray, We have used a spray bottle with water to squirt her in the act and i have poured vinegar all over the entryway to the bedroom and she will still srcatch. but now she has started doing it at 5 am and will meow at the door while doing it. As soon as the door is open she will fly in and jump on the bed and start acting all sweet and innocent but will then go back to the carpet and scratch.

Did i mention that we rent our place and there now seems no hope of getting our deposit back!!! UUUGGG I'm wiccan so i dont want to bring any heavy chemicals into the house... the Boundry stuff was horrible and i threw it out. I want to use natural things to stop this so any and all suggestions will be awesome to hear and to possibly try out. Marie is as sweet as can be and thankfully Jack our two year old Egyptian Mau knows better then to do that. PLEASE HELP!!!
Blessings & Pixie Dust

I have used those clear plastic carpet runners that have little prongs on the back to keep it from slipping on the carpet. Turn it upside down so the prongs are facing up. Tape this to the area of the carpet. The hope is that the cat will not like walking on this pointed surface and avoid that area.

Double sided tape over the area may be another thing to try. Hard to scratch and cats avoid the sticky surface.

Citrus scents are said to be disliked by cats. I have not tried it.

Hope things get better.

Citrus is usually a good deterrent - lemon essential oil 1 drop per 10 ml water in a spray bottle is a good blend, just shake well before using. You could get a few different oils and do a sniff test until you find the one your cat hates - all cats are different after all ;) In terms of scent, cayenne or chilli essential oils (or something else along those lines) is the other route to take. Use just like the citrus oil. I'd go for citrus or similar before going for heat, as it can't be nice for the cat to get it on their paws and possibly ingest a little. Worth bearing in mind as a last resort.

The other thing that might help is a flat scratch pad placed on top of the favoured scratching area. It won't stop the scratching but might stop the damage.

Siamese cats are notoriously attention seeking, which is probably why you're having the problem in the first place. Hopefully she'll grow out of it as she gets older. Good luck finding a solution.
