It was mentioned in a story online about the economy causing people to either surrender or abandon their pets.

Sounds like it may be another good resource, if it is not already listed here somewhere.

I work at United Animal Nations (UAN) and can give you more information about our organization. UAN was founded in 1987 in Sacramento, California. It is a non-profit organization that focuses on bringing animals out of crisis and into care.

The LifeLine Grant Program, which is referred to here, provides funding to Good Samaritans, animal rescuers, non-profit organizations and pet owners to help them care for animals in life-threatening situations.

We offer our LifeLine Individual and LifeLine Rescue Grants to low-income pet owners and animal rescuers to help them pay for urgent vet care for animals with life-threatening injuries or illness.

You can read more about these grants here:
http://www.uan.org/index.cfm?navid=161

Our Web site also includes a comprehensive list of other agencies that provide financial assistance for vet care. You can see that list here:
http://www.uan.org/index.cfm?navId=163

Anyone interested in learning more about UAN and receiving updates about our programs and services can sign up for our e-mail newsletters here:

Thank you!

As much as I love Chynna and Abby, I have to confess that the thought of doing that crossed my mind more than once over the 4 years I've been off of work. I could hardly provide for myself, and felt awful having to cut corners where they were concerned too.

Thank you, Alexis. I am going to ask one of the mods to make this a sticky post or find a way to capture this information.
