Sorry if this is in the wrong forum, I didn't know where else to put it.
I bought a new office chair the other day, and I kept the box just in case I need to return it. After the cats knocked it over and tore out all of the garbage and leftover cardboard and stuff all over the floor that night, we put it upright in the bathtub and shut the door to the bathroom when we were gone yesterday. Last night, we forgot to shut the door.
When I woke up this morning and went to the bathroom, I noticed that one of my cats was up in the bathroom window, where he never lays, and I also noticed that the box was knocked over and laying flat in the tub, and it fit pretty tightly against the sides. When I sat down, I saw black legs in the corner of the tub. He was half inside the box, and the other half was outside. He must have tried to crawl into the box after knocking it over and he got stuck. I think my cat in the window was trying to let me know that the other one was in the tub and that something was wrong.
I screamed.
I tried moving his legs but they didn't move or twitch. I thought he was dead. My fiance came out and put the box back up and took him out, his head was moving. His legs and tail were completely limp and he couldn't move them. He would try to stand up but his back end wouldn't even lift. My first thought was just hoping and praying that he was just stuck too long and his legs were numb, like when our legs fall asleep. I didn't want to drag him to the vet yet, he was so listless and if I could at least get the feeling back into his legs as fast as I could, that would be better than dragging him out into the cold for a 20 minute car ride that might have lost precious time.
We brought out warm, moist towels and covered his legs and kept rubbing his legs, tail, and back, trying to stimulate bloodflow. Slowly, slowly, over 15-20 minutes, he started twitching his tail, then his feet, and finally moving and got up and started limping to the litterbox.
He can walk okay now, but he's still having problems going to the bathroom. I think he got backed up when he was stuck but he seems to be dropping longer and longer nuggets (now more like small logs). He drank a lot of water trying to help himself go, but he just threw all the water back up. He's going to the litterbox about every 10 minutes. He's still so exhausted that I'm going to give him a few more hours until taking him to the vet. The less anxiety we cause him right now, the better.
I was hysterical this morning. I've never been like that. If I hadn't seen him in the corner there (which I could have easily missed), my fiance wouldn't have woken up even by now, I can't imagine what would have happened. And I can't help feeling like it's our fault, if we just closed the stupid door it wouldn't have happened.
