Hello everyone, my name is Alyssa.

My husband and I just rescued a kitten. Our friends' cat had a litter, and this one was the last one she had to give away. If she couldn't find her a home, she was going to take her to the pound. So, we offered to take her, despite my allergy to cat dander. I'm hoping since she is kind of young (5 months), that being around her everyday will help my body get used to having her.

I was told that she is a Calico. I looked up photos of Calicos online, and came to find that many people consider her a Tortoiseshell.

She looks almost identical to this cat, but with brighter markings.

I always thought THIS was considered a Tortoiseshell.

Someone please inform me on what she is?! I am not very knowledgeable on cats.

Anyway, her name is Cosette. We call her Cosi for short. It's from the novel Les Miserables by Victor Hugo.

Welcome to TheCatSite Alyssa,

I hope that you post a photo of Cosi soon.
Hopefully then, someone can help you name her coat color.

Make yourself at home.

Thanks everyone! She has her first vet appointment tomorrow, so I will ask them what her coat color is called. She's a very sweet cat. She loves to greet me as soon as I come home from work, and comes up purring when I get up in the morning. I would like to get another one. I have always loved Siamese cats, and my husband said he would see about getting me one for Christmas.

I can't think of a better present than a new kitty.

Let us know what your vet tells you about Cosi's coat color.

Well, Cosette is a Calico! They told me "Good luck with her when she gets older. Calicos are crazy." I was like "But, she's really affectionate and playful now." Hopefully that won't change. She has a kitty cold that they said she has to fight off on her own, but it's not bad.
She was hating me this morning. I had to give her the dewormer preventative and she spit some of it back out all over my work shirt. I had to change because it wouldn't come out of my clothes. LOL. She wouldn't let me touch her after that. But was happy to greet me at the door when I came home.
She goes in to get spayed and microchipped in 3 weeks.
I'm still working on getting her real picture.

Welcome to TCS!I'm kinda new here myself.I have three girls who are very similarly marked like the small picture you posted...Cookie,who is my "retriever",Ms. Pink, who's my pillow thief and Sissy, who's just a happy girl.I have always been under the assumption they were torties.Mine are sweet, loving, loyal, verrrry smart and extremely playful.I've never seen anything you'd call "crazy" at all,but then I've never met a kitty I didn't love.

Hi lizzie! Those are really cute names. I wasn't happy being around Cosi today, she's got AWFUL gas, which I think is from the dewormer preventative. Lord does it stink!

I took some pics of her with my iPhone...so, here's Cosette!

These ones I had to hold her, because she wouldn't let me get too close to her with the phone when trying to get a close up.

WELCOME! Cosi is beautiful, but I'm pretty sure that's torti coloring. I hope you both get a kitten for Christmas, a GREAT present. Most cats hate pilling, so good luck. You might want to try Pill Pockets for the pills. It doesn't work for all cats, but I've had great luck with them. Of course, mine live for treats. I have 5, 14-yr old, Chandler Ray, 10-1/2 yr old Lilly-Rose, 3-1/2 hr old Tweety, 1-1/2 yr old Cally (long time visitor), and the baby, Toby, now about 9 months. There are lots of great places to check out for advice. Take a stroll.

Thanks wyatt & sport!

wyatt, the vet told me she is a Calico. Her dewormer was actually a liquid, so I had to squirt it in her mouth. lol.

I hope we get a Siamese kitty for Christmas. I'd be super happy. Although I love all of my pets, I think a Siamese would complete our family of 2 humans and 4 pets! We have Cosi, our 2 Cairn Terriers, Westin & Kane, and then Bruce, our Jumbo Leopard Gecko.

Wow! Cosi's coat color is beautiful...
I love the orange stripe down her pretty forehead, right to the tip of her sweet nose.

I'm not a coat color expert, but does she have ANY white on her at all? If so, that may be why the vet said calico. But I THINK calico may be defined as having a certain percentage of white along with the "black" and "red" bicoloration. You can post in the breeders section... those folks know the color "rules".

So - IMHO - if she has a little bit of white on her - she is torti and white.

Calicos and tortis have a reputation for having "attitude". I think that's why they said good luck, etc. But it's not always true.

Any way you slice it, she's a beauty!

ETA: yeah, the dewormer does cause intestinal "issues".
