I couldn't afford one of the really tall scratching posts like he needs (since he's quite large) so I decided to make one for him! I am going to cover the base with carpet of some sort, but I wanted to go ahead and let him use it! He has used it a little and I am trying to train him not to use my office chair.
Here it is... I don't think it's too bad considering I'm not a carpenter by any stretch of the imagination! Very easy and materials cost about $25. From that $25 worth of materials, I have another 4x4 post that I can make another scratching post with at some point. I'd also like to add a sitting perch at the top but that'll have to wait for next paycheck when I can get the carpet and 3/4 inch plywood.
