Lawrence Summers for Secretary of the Treasury and Representative Rahm Emanuel for his Chief of Staff.

http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?p...yJQ&refer=home

Summers was forced to resign from his position at Harvard in 2005 after his comments about “women lack the ability to succeed at the highest levels of math and science.†Women actually walked out of a conference at Cambridge over the incident. All this after tenured position offers began to shrink for the women at Harvard under his watch.

Emanuel? He's a longtime pal of the Clintons and Chicago Mayor Daly.

So much for change.

So much for an Obama administration that hates people of the Jewish faith and is going to abandon and abolish Israel like some posters have been intimating here for the last few months.

from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rahm_Emanuel, sorry just the easiest source to quote.

Quote:
Emanuel was born in Chicago, Illinois in 1959. His father, the Jerusalem-born Benjamin M. Emanuel, is a pediatrician and was a member of the Irgun, a militant Zionist group active during the British Mandate of Palestine.

When his family lived in Chicago, he attended Bernard Zell Anshe Emet Day School, a Jewish day school.

If Obama goes through with naming Summers to be Secretary of the Treasury, I'll consider that the first blunder of his presidency. I remember the flap about his saying that women are genetically programmed not to take an interest in science and engineering. That I could have lived with - I'm female myself and an ex-professor of Engineering. And I've gotten used to being the only female in the room all my life. But the speculation that it was this genetic difference as opposed to discrimination at the university level went too far. It's real, even if he wants to pooh-pooh it. Cripes who is Harvard to talk about Science and Engineering anyway when they have one piddly little department for Engineering and Applied Sciences and MIT is a few miles down Mass Ave?
http://www.boston.com/news/local/art...n_draw_fire/of

I remember the affirmative action programs of the 1980s, when even respected universities went overboard lowering the bar for women to get the sheer number of women professors up. If it served one purpose it sent a message to women of my generation that we had a shot at professorhips at even the best places.

But to discount the real discrimination that still goes on is closing your eyes to a problem. As president of Harvard the guy should have known better. It was his opinion sure, and he claims to have backed it up with "research," but it was an unbelievably stupid thing to say.

That doesn't show me much. The Chief of Staff can be as powerless as a secretary, depending on the POTUS's needs.

And Emanuel is a hothead, who's close friends with Axelrod and James "The Mouth" Carville. He was in the Clinton camp for many years, but hopped quickly to his fellow Chicagoan BHO at the first chance. He's wishy washy when it comes to earmarks, saying the Dems promised to "reform them," not actually end them.

Nice job with the transition staff as well. Just full of surprises there.

http://www.usatoday.com/news/politic...resident_N.htm

Obama named a transition staff led by longtime confidante Valerie Jarrett; his former Senate chief of staff, Pete Rouse; and John Podesta, one of several ex-Clinton aides helping the Democrat. Among the others from the Clinton years: Carol Browner, Environmental Protection Agency administrator; Bill Daley, Commerce secretary; and Federico Pena, Transportation and Energy secretary.

The group includes fresh faces such as Arizona Gov. Janet Napolitano, an early supporter, and Julius Genachowski, an Internet business executive and Harvard Law School classmate of Obama's.

A bit more on the meetings with the transition team:

http://online.wsj.com/article/SB122593241428003447.html

Presented with the task of governing in the face of two wars, a financial crisis and a tide of federal debt, Mr. Obama spent much of Wednesday huddled in the offices of Ariel Investments, a Chicago-based mutual fund company headed by friend John W. Rogers Jr.

Ariel Investments. A "below average" mutual fund.

Coincidentally, the owner's mom is heavily vested in Chicago politics.

I'll offer up this for you to read and decide further.

Yes, I'm not afraid to use AT as a source, you can do your own research from there, like any informed American should do.

The gift that keeps on giving: the internet.

Ari Emanual, Rahm's baby brother. A talent agent in Hollywood. Who happens to be a famous client? Michael Moore.

If I heard a word about his fat *** spending the night in the Lincoln bedroom, I'll

You know, I heard that his childhood nextdoor neighbor was in Office Space, and Jennifer Aniston was in that, and Jennifer Aniston was in Picture Perfect with Kevin Bacon!

Cool! He's surrounding himself with experience. Some good, some bad, but they're experienced, by gosh!

Isn't that what people wanted?

I agree with you. I'll be disappointed if this is his choice.

Emanuel has accepted the Chief of Staff position. After he said he hadn't even been spoken to about it.

http://www.cnn.com/2008/POLITICS/11/...ile/index.html

And a not so good review from a fellow.

After reports that Emanuel had agreed to be Obama's chief of staff on Thursday, the top Republican in the House, Minority Leader John Boehner of Ohio, questioned the president-elect's pick.

"This is an ironic choice for a president-elect who has promised to change Washington, make politics more civil and govern from the center," Boehner said.

And late breaking news: Boehner has stepped down from his role. Probably sees its gonna be a long 4 years.

Next up, Sec. of Treasury. Timothy Geithner.

http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/...t-at-treasury/

And Ed Rendell, former Philly mayor and PA Governor, longtime Louis Farrakhan fan, in the mix for DOE.

Fresh new honest faces is Washington, oh joy.

I dont see anything wrong with Geithner - he has one impressive CV.

Ohhhh, so the political govt of the City of Philly IS Democratic.

I like his choices. I never could stand Boehner so if he dislikes it then I am all for it! He was most likely going to be voted off the island anyway so he saved face. Who needs the memories of the last eight years with his face on TV.

The thing with Summer is difficult. He has the reputation of being extrememly capable and intelligent yet he made such a dunderhead of himself. But I am willing to give him a second chance if he can get this economy in shape. Grudgingly, mind you, but I hear he is the man for the job.

As for Rahm. Good choice. He is tough and knows the ropes. He is also friends with people from both parties so this is good. Who cares about his brother? He is not the one with the job. He is just a big player in Hollywood not DC.

Good choice, IMO!

I'm bummed Jamie Dimon no longer seems to be in the running for Treasury Secretary. IMO he would have been the best choice.

I agree on both counts.

John Kerry as anything besides being quiet in a corner is bad.

Why? He represents a substantial segment of population.
