I'm politically stupid.....

I don't follow politics, I know I should but I guess I go ADHD when it comes to following them

Can someone please tell me without flaming myself or others what is going to happen with the Healthcare and Job situation?

And in laymens terms at that?

Obama's health care plan is pretty moderate. If you have employer-provided health care, not very much will change and nothing will change very soon. It's the people who don't have or can't afford their health care that will see immediate benefits.

The job situation... well, we don't really know much about that, because that isn't so much up to politicians. Obama has promised to stop giving tax breaks to companies that outsource jobs, and to give tax breaks to companies who create jobs here. Unfortunately the job market is at the mercy of the economy.

Well... you are going to get two very different points of view. One side is going to come to this thread and say: it's the worst thing EVER!

The other side is going to say: well, it's the best thing EVER.

My opinion? Wait and see. There's a lot of time between now and January 20th.

Basically, the bottom line is...we have no clue. Z explained what Obama wants to do, but we don't know if that is possible yet. I'm guessing it will be quite awhile before anything happens with healthcare. On the job front...again, no clue.

The election was just last night and any changes made won't happen for a while. Neither candidate could make changes that fast or follow up on his promises right now.

Thanks

The reason I ask is my mom is in the hospital right now and my father (against Obama) said that we will have to pay for Dr bills upfront and then get OUR money from our insurance companies

That is not how it works now, and certainly won't be how it works when Obama is President.

Some of the ideas that Palin et al wrongly put in people's heads... well, on the upside, they'll be pleasantly surprised in January. But none of the surprise will involve paying medical bills out-of-pocket when you didn't have to before.

Nothing has changed as of now.

Nothing can change healthcare wise without Congress passing the law to institute Obama's plan. So it's going to be a good, long while before anything happens, if it ever does. That's how government works, even with majorities in Congress and the President of the same party. Clinton couldn't get all of his plans passed when he had a Democratic Congress. Bush couldn't get all of his plans passed when he had a Republican Congress. And they may take a "simple" plan, like the 3 page bailout bill that Bush originally proposed, and add all kinds of junk and extras so it barely resembles what Obama promised on the campaign trail, like what the 450 page bailout bill looked when it was passed.

Alycia, you shouldn't have to pay the hospital bills up front and that wouldn't have changed under either McCain's or Obama's plan. But I do know that there are doctors that do demand payment in full and then tell you to go fight with your insurance company for reimbursement. I ran into that when i was trying to find a specialist - he wanted $350 when you walk in the door, and then you get back whatever you could get from your insurance company.

That's what I thought! I know the changes wouldn't be immediatly anyways but I can't argue with my father
