My cat was left home alone during a bad hail storm that we had recently, because I was at work. She threw up by the window she usually sits at, so I'm sure the lighning and thunder scared her, and has not gotten over throwing up since then. I've read online about cats and phobias with storms, but how long does this last?

She's barely eaten. And she hides behind a standing mirror that I have as though she's afraid kind of like what a little kid would do. And she doesn't like it when I'm gone. For example I had to go out today, and she threw up a lot. She's only thrown up a couple of times tonight, and not that much, and was fine for a majority of the day that I was home.

But anyways, I'm not sure if I need to take her to the vet as she hasn't ever done this before. But I know from watching over my sister's dog that she's deathly afraid of storms, and we would have to turn the tv on extremely loud for her not to hear anything. So, my cat might be the same way.

And thankfully, this is also the first major storm that she's been in without me by her side. However, I'm afraid of leaving her alone this week. I may take her to the vet on Tuesday if I don't see any improvement in her tomorrow. Thank goodness it's on the same street as where I work at lol! But I'm kind of worried. However, I've always had outside animals though. I am still getting used to taking care of an inside animal as it's a bit different.

Thanks in advance for any help I might receive!

We just had a terrible thunder storm the other night and my cats were ok this time but Sasha used to shake and be terrified.
How old is your cat?
Sasha just turned 2 in Aug and is ok now.
My cats claw at the hail when it comes down.
I hope your cat feels better.

My cat is now 2 years old. I took her to the vet today, and she had a bit of a temperature, and her nose was clogged up. Everything else checked out ok. It will be interesting to see how she reacts to another storm though, because she just hasn't done that before! I still think she got herself all worked up, which I hate storms as well though. I can understand that.

Maybe your cat is sick from something.
I was scared the other not when that tstorm hit.
Our house was shaking and I thought lightening was going to hit our palm trees or the mailbox.

You can give her some of the Rescue Remedy that will help calm her down and take away the stress.

I've only had one cat that would hide in the closet at the first sound of thunder (he was adopted from the SPCA and I think he got caught in a thunderstorm at a very young age). None of my other cats have been phased by thunderstorms, etc.

Now Keno (our lab) is terrified of storms. She was left out in them a lot as a younger dog (not by us) and has never gotten over it. We try to ignore her behavior like its nothing (according to pack leaders) and we don't baby her during a storm. We just pet her a bit, but don't make a big deal out of it.
