Taking home the new cat this week

I have made the decision to get another cat, sooner than later.

I had originally planned to wait until after the holidays, but Touche has been
wandering around the house like a lost soul since I had to put Little Girl,
my 12yr old tabby, PTS a few weeks ago.

I went to the local animal shelter and spent about an hour in their cat room
looking for a good match for Touche. I was looking for another female cat,
about the same size as Touche. I think I settled on one:



Her name (for now) is Ariel, she's a 2yr old dilute tortoiseshell. She's been
in the shelter for almost a year. She's a little shy, but affectionate and
best of all she doesn't appear to have any desire to be an Alpha cat (that's Touche's job! )

There were plenty of other beautiful cats there, I wish I could take them all home.

There was this huge (big, not fat) black tom that I might have chosen
if he was going to be an only cat. Unfortunately, was twice Touche's size
and probably would have scared her to death.

Anyway, I'm going to bring 'Ariel' to her new home on Tuesday.

Now, I need to come up with a new name for her.

A funny thing happened when we brought Ella home. Sterling had been our Alpa Cat. She quickly put him in his place. However, she was very cautious around Punkin, who is about as easy-going as they come. But he IS big. So she kind of turned the power structure upside down.

You never know what might happen. That big tom might be a pushover, like Punkin!

Actually the people at the humane society had the tom off by himself since
he was so big and because he would bully the other cats.

He also thought he was a dog, according to one woman.

And that's the value of going to a shelter and asking.

On the other hand, the shelter said that Ella was "not good with other cats." That's going to be a shock to Sterling, who thinks that she's a great playpal.

Well, this is Touche.

I think you can tell from the picture that she is all about attitude.

She is gorgeous.

awww . she looks like a great kitty. I'm glad you're getting a cat that's been at the shelter a year. She deserves a forever home. Good for you.

I just had my 'interview' with the humane society today and got approved,
so 'Ariel' will be coming home on Wednesday.

While I was in the cat room this afternoon, a big male tabby named 'Max'
jumped on my shoulder and let me scratch between his ears for five minutes.

The head of the shelter said I could take Max home as well (buy one, get one free!)
if I promised to give him a good home.

I gotta think about that one though.

To promote adoptions, we have a buy 1/get 1 type of "deal". People still have to go through the application process & if we don't think the multiple kitties will work well together/work in the home/etc we don't do it.

Introducing 2 cats can be slightly more difficult unless the 2 newbies already get along?
