On Thursday I went to get some Frontline from the vet and he gave me another spot-on treatment called Promeris, that he said was exactly the same but cheaper. I put it on Ellie, Wellington and Bonaparte.
That night, I was woken up to horrible noises and discovered Bonaparte tearing at himself, trying to lick his back and pulling his fur out. He was also coughing badly. I was not sure what to do but after an hour of this, I was unable to listen to my poor boy any longer and decided to risk another trauma. So at 2AM I was showering him with warm water. He struggled a bit at first, but almost as soon as he felt the water on his skin he relaxed and his expression went from one of agony to relief. I doused and rinsed him thoroughly and dried him in a warm towel. Once he had completed the drying process himself he came back to bed and slept soundly for the rest of the night. He has had no ill effects since. The other two had no problems.
Needless to say, I have warned the vet. Bonaparte has a history of allergy and eczema so Promeris is obviously not suitable for cats with sensitive skins.
